Did you buy recalled lettuce?
PORTLAND, Ore. – A Portland fruit and vegetable company is recalling several types of bagged salads because they might be contaminated with listeria, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Pacific Coast Fruit Company voluntarily recalled several brands of bagged lettuce sold at Fred Meyer, Avanti and Evergreen stories in Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Idaho, the FDA said in a statement.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious or deadly infections in young children, the elderly or people with compromised immune systems. Healthy individuals usually suffer short-term symptoms that include fever, headache, nausea and diarrhea.
Pacific Coast Fruit, which is based in NE Portland, said the recalled lettuce was sold in both retail and commercial food service packages.
Consumers who have purchased this product should not consume it and are urged to return it to the place of purchase or destroy the product. Consumer with questions can contact Pacific Coast Fruit at 503-234-6411 between the hours of 8 am-4:30 pm PST Monday to Friday.
