Passenger starts fire on Amtrak train in Eugene, police say
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Eugene Police arrested a man accused of causing a disturbance on an Amtrak train and lighting a fire in the restroom of a sleeper car.
A police spokesman said officers were sent to the downtown train station Friday afternoon to help Amtrak with an unruly passenger arriving on a northbound train.
Before officers arrived, Nathan Tillis of Sacramento, Calif., barricaded himself in the restroom and set the fire.
The corridor outside the restroom filled with smoke, but the authorities were able pry open the door, extinguish the fire and arrest Tillis.
The 30-year-old Tillis has been charged with reckless endangering, criminal mischief, interfering with police, interfering with public transportation and resisting arrest.

People seem to be going over the edge these days...acting out their  nutty stuff in extreme ways. I wonder of they are being inspired by things like "reality TV shows" and such to act in antisocial and self-centered disruptive ways. It's like a bunch of angry tantrum-ish kindergarten kids on the loose with adult levels of being able to make mayhem.
Should have left him in there... If someone is dumb enough to start a fire in an enclosed space like that.... maybe ask him if he thought the fire thing was a good idea....
I bet they have a "smokin" deal on tickets right now....just sayin'Â
No arson charges?
 @RalphCramden I've seen the DA do that when the turd sets fire to an object (like some paper or rags or something) rather than a physical structure or vehicle customarily occupied by people, even if the turd is INSIDE such a structure, vehicle, etc. If the damage was minor enough, it would just be a Criminal Mischief.
Our all-knowing government gave the BNSF railroad mutli-millions of taxpayer dollars to revamp their operations in Vancouver, WA.  This money was given to one of the most profitable companies in the country that is owned by one of the wealthiest people on the planet, Warren Buffet.  Why?, because they said there was a choke point there causing delays to trains, including Amtrak.   There  is a small problem with that.  The choke point delaying trains was on the Oregon side of the river, not on the Washington side.  Delayed trains on the Union Pacific is a normal occurence, but no money went to fix that problem.  It's no surprise.  Sending money to where there is no problem makes it easier to correct the problem.  Typical government incompetence and waste.
 @Shadow I just wanted to let you know, I think you are accidentally commented on a totally different story. If that isn't the case, your infatuation with Warren Buffet has been documented just in case they happen to run a story about him in the future. Well done!
 @Shadow Was Warren Buffet locked in the bathroom and starting fires? Did I miss something here?
Â
I rode a train once; it was a very pleasant experience. I met a nice girl and we chatted ...
 @Shadow Ok what does this have to do with the story?
 @Shadow Stupid whiner...
He was probably lighting a flame up for gay love...
Geez, you can't even ride a train now without some looney freaking out.
 @The Resistance he must be a gay person and heard about sweet cakes lol
 @Laughing at Liberals  @The Resistance That's two posts in a row where you've mentioned gayness.You seem a little, eh, obsessed.
 @Playanekes  @Laughing at Liberals  @The Resistance Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!
 @whirledworld But if that comment goes away, it totally blows context for Play's comment and in turn ruins mine... and I am pretty proud of that... I'm not usually that clever. :D
 @Playanekes  @Laughing at Liberals  @The Resistance just flag him for off-topic because it is annoying to see such stupid irrelevant posts.
 @Playanekes So far in the closet, He passed Narnia 2 exits back.
Next stop...Eugene, or Jail
Well, at least he wasn't trying to hijack the train. LOL. From my own experience riding Amtrak, it seems this train will be a bit late to wherever it's going, but that's generally the rule, I guess.Â
 @jpk They're on time over 80% of the time between Portland and Seattle.
You must be luckier than me. I've been delayed upon arrival, had them run out of food, and watched as motor homes beat us going uphill as I was riding along I-5 in Washington. Not to mention the wonderfully idyllic and scenic industrial areas the train goes through in Oregon. Also been delayed over 5 hours in even having the northbound train arrive in Salem because some unfortunate woman passed away north of San Francisco.
Thanks! As an optimist I agree with you. As a pessimist, I doan wanna answer, but as a realist, I know I'm contributing to someone else's win! LOL
 @jpk Maybe you'll have some good luck in the lottery to balance out the Amtrak luck!
Good for you. Maybe I should stop wasting money on attempting win the lottery now! LOL
 @jpk Sorry to hear about the bad luck, but the 80%+ number is from WSDOT for all trains between PDX and Seattle.  I've personally only been delayed once, and we only ended up about 15 or 20 minutes late out of about fifteen or twenty trips.
