Peacock Lane lights up for the holidays

PORTLAND, Ore. - A popular Christmas tradition is back along Peacock Lane in Southeast Portland.
The neighborhood's annual holiday light display is a decades-long custom that began way back in the 1920s and it's become one of the most popular places to visit in the days leading up to Christmas.
Peacock Lane is located between Southeast Stark and Belmont, one block east of 39th, and it's free to visit. The display runs through Dec. 31.
Lots of folks visit Peacock Lane, so plan your trip accordingly. If you want to take a walk down the street, you might have to park some distance away. If you want to treat yourself, though, you can take a carriage ride.
Peacock Lane is one street with no global warming fears, eh? Burn that electricity baby!
They don't put nearly enough emphasis on the traffic mess this annual rite causes! Â The only parking is the Wal Mart lot at Belmont and (old name SE 39th Ave) SE Cesar Chavez Blvd. Â That's also where the carriage ride folks meet.

Itâs a Walgreenâs but you're right, traffic is a complete mess.
Â
The only way to enjoy this is to be able to park a few blocks away and walk to the street. The only way that's any good is to hope for no rain.
Â
39th, Stark, Belmont, all the way back in all four directions, it's a gigantic cluster.

@Repoman Okay, thanks for the correction.  I never shop at either Wal Mart *or* Walgreens so I get the two mixed up frequently.
