Pedestrian hit and killed in Clackamas

CLACKAMAS, Ore. - A pedestrian was hit and killed Tuesday night in Clackamas.
The crash happened around 8:20 p.m. on Southeast 82nd Avenue at Sunnybrook Boulevard.
According to the Oregon State Police, an unidentified man was crossing Southeast 82nd Avenue south of the intersection with another man when he was struck by a vehicle. The person he was with was not hit.
The driver, who was not injured, did remain at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The southbound lanes of Southeast 82nd Avenue were closed for about two hours following the crash.
I hope the mayor will call for banning assault cars.

When will this madness end? There are 350 million cars in this country killing people every day.
People cross away from the street, walk in the lane of traffic...mostly because they are taught from birth that they have the right-of-way over vehicles...the vehicles HAVE to stop for them. How many times I see people cross against a no walk light without even looking to see if a car is approaching...almost like they are daring the driver the hit them. I don't cross until I get eye contact from the driver...that was the way I was taught. Most countries, the vehicle has the right of way over pedestrians, and they have a lot less pedestrians killed...that should tell people something...but our government wants to protect everyone, and it is costing lives.
@flyingtime I agree! There is a big difference between "pedestrians have the right of way, in a crosswalk" and "just walk out in the street and the waters will part for me "

Although the area generally has hellish traffic and isn't very well lit, the victim lacked common sense. South of Sunnybrook, it's just an open freeway. Who tries to cross a freeway? In the dark?
@Reflect Not a freeway, in fact there is a stoplight W/crosswalk. Never could understand why people try to cross a busy street w/o using the light and crosswalk someone went to all the trouble putting in.Â
Watched if happen today a man crossing 99E near Roethe rd dodgin traffic. Light controlled intersection was not 100 feet to his north. Most shocking of all was after all this running through traffic, he walked north past the crosswalk.Â
At least this driver was responsible enough to remain at the scene.

I hate driving anywhere in that area. The traffic is a nightmare over there.
@Mikey You know it's getting bad when we start giving credit just for sticking around. Not disputing it, but it is pretty sad. Whether they left the scene or stayed shouldn't even be a consideration, yet it's common now days.
@Lips I agree, but it seems that more and more, people feel they can drive off without facing the consequences. Has human life become so inconsequential?
Comments will be few until details have been added! Â
