Pedestrian hit by a car on the Oregon Coast highway

GEARHART, Ore. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a crash that critically injured a pedestrian near Gearhart.

The Oregon State Police said the crash occurred Thursday afternoon on Highway 101. Authorities say 20-year-old Jake Edward Weil of Warrenton tried to cross the highway to a coffee stand when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Authorities say the driver, 72-year-old Patricia Rasso of Vancouver, tried to stop. She is now cooperating with the investigation, and the Oregon State Police says there is no evidence she was at fault.

The pedestrian is from the Warrenton area but was not identified. He was transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital.
