WOODLAND, Wash. – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a semi truck on Interstate 5 near Woodland early Monday morning.

Washington State Trooper William Finn said northbound I-5 reopened at Woodland at 7 a.m. The northbound lanes were closed for several hours after the crash.

The semi driver called 911 just after 2 a.m. and said he thought he had hit someone walking on the freeway, Finn said. The driver told investigators he was driving in the right lane and changed to the center lane when he saw reflecting lights on the right shoulder. The driver said he hit someone after he changed lanes.

“It appears the driver of the car that was on the shoulder was in the center lane wearing dark clothing,” said Finn in a news release.

Troopers said the man who was killed was 41-year-old Zeus Perez from Portland.

Investigators do not know why the man was in the center lane. There were no other passengers or witnesses.
