Police find stolen dog, arrest suspect
PORTLAND, Ore. – A Siberian Husky named Tuesday was found safe Saturday night in Vancouver, Wash. after police said she was stolen outside a Portland restaurant on Friday.
Police said an unidentified person in Vancouver called them and said a family member brought Tuesday to their home and left her there. They recognized the dog from media coverage, police said.
Police gave Tuesday a ride back to Sprenger in Portland.
Sunday evening, police arrested 47-year-old Aaron Delagarza in connection with the theft. Police took him to the Multnomah County Jail where he faces one count of theft.
Tuesday's owner, 28-year-old Joel Sprenger, told police that he was inside the restaurant while Tuesday was tied up outside on Friday.
Sprenger said he checked on her several times before he realized she was missing.
Police said surveillance video showed a man walk over to Tuesday, untie her and sit with her. He then walked away with the dog on Kilpatrick Street.
I won't even leave my dog tied up outside 7-11 to run in and grab a coffee. I just don't trust people to leave her alone! Dog-nappings happen all the time. I see people do stupid stuff like this all the time, like leaving their car running outside 7-11. Crazy.Â
Notice how willingly the dog leaves with her new owner? Maybe she wasn't so happy with her current situation. The true owner, Sprenger, needs to take note of this and readjust their relationship.
@None A dog that is properly leash trained will follow the lead. All they know is, they go where the leash goes.
This guy's got a lot of mugshots...

@HOSS And we have a Winner! Â The "Troll of the day" prize comes with tons of prestige and accolades! Â Not really but then that's not what you're looking for is it.
@JerkyBob I think HOSS needs your avatar JerkyBob. I could only imagine that he huffed a lot of paint before typing that rant.
@HOSS you are a retard I guess. Or a troll that got banned and has returned under another name.
Who would tie their seven year old child to a post while having a drink? I know that sound ridiculous but if I had a dog,I would regard it as my child.
Good news!
ironically the thief sounds like a husky Siberian
BAD DOG!!
I'm glad the dog was found safe, but have zero sympathy for the owner. The Kenton Club isn't a restaurant, it's a filthy dive bar. KATU makes it sound like this person just ran in to grab a burrito, checked on the dog while it was being made, and then was shocked that in the time it took for them to prepare his to-go order, some roving vandal had absconded with his precious friend. Baloney. He was in there getting loaded for hours and only happened to "check" on the dog when he needed another cigarette. Not exactly nice weather right now either. No sympathy for this stupid and selfish drunk. The dog needs a better home.
@badcat And you know this how? How do you know he wasn't there hanging out with friends and drinking something non-alcoholic? Unless you were personally there, you don't.
Â
And a dog that can live, pull a sled and sleep outside in -30 weather is probably going to be OK with Portland's mid 40's weather.
@GTPYL08 I'm sure Badcat was playing the odds that people that go to dive bars don't go for their cucumber waters and manicures.
@GTPYL08  @badcat Tying up a dog on a public sidewalk is not safe for the dog. Several dogs have been attacked by other dogs and by humans with boots/shoes.clubs etc. and the dog is left nearly defenseless on a short leash tied to a pole. Seriously stupid idea.
I am overjoyed that Tuesday is home safe. However, people really shouldn't leave their dogs tied up outside businesses. I feel sorry for them every time I see it. Hopefully this was a valuable lesson, and I hope that other people will change their dog handling practices due to this story. I'd hate to see this happen to someone else.
Very happy that Tuesday has been returned to her rightful owner..! Â Â Kudos to the family who recognized her and notified police; it was the right thing to do.
Â
Mr Sprenger, please don't leave Tuesday unattended...anywhere or any time..! Â You and Tuesday were both VERY fortunate - this time... to be reunited... but it doesn't always turn out that way... Â
Would you leave your child tied up outside while you go into a store? Then why in the Heck are you leaving your loved one tied up outside. Anyone who does this is very naive but actually foolish and asking for trouble. Grow up, there's a mean world out there.
Let's update this story now by saying that the dog has been returned to Joel. Congrats! The person who stole the dog didn't realize that they stole the dog.Â
Â
Really? When a dog is tied up and you take it off its leash, you don't realize that you are stealing something? Don't buy that for a minute.Â
well joel maybe the next time you get all boozed up at a place like the "kenton club" you can not bring your dog. what an idiot.
Many posters say "you wouldn't expect your dog to be stolen"...There is a thriving business out there buying stolen pets and they sell them to labs for animal experiments, as well as those that just will not buy their own. About the only one that will not be stolen is the guard dog, trained to protect it's 'spot' if ordered to. ALL the rest are subject to the thieves. Percentage of theft varies with location!
according to a poster on another news site, the dog was found by police and returned to his owner
9to a caring home). We are in desperate need of a LAW prohibiting leaving
your pooch unattended ANYWHERE.
Â
The regretful thing is that our city "leaders" fail to
require enforcement of the ALL ordinances on the books
unless it behooves THEM.
Â
Tuesday come home
@Mipsfer "We" don't need more "laws".  But, I agree with your second sentence.  Can I leave my pooch unattended at home while he sleeps? Izzat okay?
@Mipsfer .......you cannot legislate for common sense and logical thinking.
Stolen or rescued?

@HarryJuku In California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon and Rhode Island, laws affirm that dogs in the bed of a truck or open area of a vehicle must be properly secured or restrained in a way that prevents the animals from jumping, falling or being thrown from the vehicle.Â
Â
Nevada and Washington have laws in place that deal with transporting animals in vehicles. The laws mandate that animals must be secured and carried in a humane way in which they are protected from any kind of pain or torture.
Call the cops when you see dogs unsecured in truck beds (or kids). I had the misfortune to see a airedale-type dog fall out of a truck in Texas on the interstate freeway in a place where the sides of the road were surrounded by high stone walls so the dog could not escape the fast traffic and was brutally killed in front of my eyes before I could find a way to stop traffic to save it. Horrible.  The "owners" just kept going. Dogs fell out of trucks there way too often. People did not often bother to look for them afterwards. I ended up with one of my wonderful dogs that way. She fell off of  the top of a pick-up truck's load of cedar wood and they never bothered to stop or look for her again. ( plus when I got her i could tell she had been used to  being abused).
My heart aches at the thought of the possibility of losing one of my Boys to some thief, so I can imagine a little what the owner of Tuesday must be feeling. How sad for him and for Tuesday. There are a lot of weird people out there. Hopefully Tuesday is microchipped and registered and shows up safe and sound soon. Huskies are amazing dogs and it's easy to fall in love with them.
This is why you shouldn't leave your dogs tied up outside. Â It's neglectful. Â Painful lesson learned the hard way. Â Let's hope the dog is safe at least. Â Who knows what kind of person took it.
I grew up in the Kenton district. There were a lot of guys like the described perp even then. As kids we were warned to be careful.
There's surveillance video. Instead of a text description it would be a lot more helpful to post a link to the video or at least a snapshot so the public can see this creep. I, for one, would be a lot more vigilant if I could see what he looked like.
Oooh, my wife and I saw that beautiful dog outside Russell Street BBQ one night about a month ago. It's absolutely gorgeous, and you wouldn't believe it's eyes in person. Absolutely stunning. How disgusting that someone would steal her.
@brautigan So what you are saying is this idiot serially neglects his dog. Awesome!!!!
@brautigan But also, how careless to her this dog (or any dog) tied up in a public place where he/she *could* be stolen, or attacked by a vicious dog and not be able to get away being tied up, or get kicked at etc. by bad humans. Please use  the brain you were endowed with, people, when you are having the stupid  idea to tie your dog up and leave it unattended in public (or private). Your dog's safety depends on you being more responsible  that that.
@whirledworld  @brautigan You got that right the way I see it, whirleworld.Â
A lot of the comments below criticizing the owner are way off. Â Many stores provide tie-up areas for customers to leave dogs while they shop. Â You just don't expect that someone will stoop so low as to steal a dog. Â I wonder if this guy who stole the dog has the same self-righteous attitude, and figured he knew what was best for the dog so he took her.
@Daniel C  Hello? Seriously? You don't think people steal pets? People will steal anything. Google it. Here's an interesting link:

Â
I won't beat up on this poor owner, but I will tell other dog owners who leave their beloved friends outside businesses: As you are tying your dog to the post imagine life without him. Is it worth the risk?
@Scotty9 In that case you just shouldn't own a dog, since the risks can never be completely removed.
 @Daniel CÂ
Â
That's silly too. If you own things you act responsibly to take care of them in order to reduce the risk of loss. You ride a bike? You lock it up when it's unattended. Have a child? You do your best to child proof your home. Own a pet? Don't leave it unattended in a public place.
Where are all of these stupid people coming from?!??? You wouldn't leave your child tied up outside much less your beautiful dog!! What exactly did you expect??? Talk about Russian Roulette...50/50 chance she'd still be there...and you lost.
@fracas Your post makes no sense. You are implying that someone wouldn't leave their child tied up outside, and "much less your dog" means that it's more egregious to leave a dog tied up outside than a child. You can't possibly mean that, can you???
And from where are you getting your statistic that there's a 50% chance that a dog would be stolen from outside a restaurant? I'm betting that it almost never happens, or else we'd hear about it more often.
Way to have compassion for the poor fellow who lost his dog, fracas.
@gofigure Read my post just above this one. You fit too.
@gofigure  @fracas It does happen and I have heard about it happening for years hee in the NW and other places/states. One of my dogs got loose from my yard in another state and the people seen picking her up never turned her in to AC or the Humane Society so I never got her back! : ( She was a beautiful red Vizsla. I still miss her and it's been decades.
@fracas Nah, dogs frequently jump fences and run away from home, but most people don't expect that someone would steal a dog.  Although the thought has crossed my mind about my own dog, the likelihood of this happening seems exceptionally low.  But there's always that small percentage of scum bags in life.
@Daniel C  @fracas Actually the theft of a good looking or purebred dog tied up or left unattended in a vehicle is not that uncommon. Those kids of dogs are worth money to pet flippers, bunchers, druggies and then there are the people too uncivilized to go buy their own dog for a pet so they take yours. too.
@Daniel C  @fracas I know how to care for them, unlike you. BTW: don't get a dog. You don't know how to take care of one. And for sure: do NOT have kids for that matter. You'll have the same problems or likely worse since you cannot even  take care of a dog.
@whirledworld  @fracas Nya nya nya nya nya... ^typical internet.
@Daniel C @whirledworld @fracas I certainly hope YOU don't own a dog because you sound way too stupid and unthinking to effectively have one. Jerk.
@whirledworld  @fracas Maybe you just shouldn't own a dog.  I think the risks are simply too high for a person as concerned as you are.
My Boxer is my child. I would never leave her unsupervised or unprotected. With that being written, I hope this man finds his pet and has learned a valuable lesson.
