BATTLE GROUND, Wash - A woman who was found dead on the side of a road has been identified and investigators believe she may have been the victim of a hit and run.

The body of 22-year-old Tatyana Tupikova was discovered Friday afternoon on State Highway 503, about a quarter of a mile south of Main Street in Battle Ground, Wash.

A passerby spotted the body and alerted local firefighters.

Tupikova had been missing since May 9. An autopsy performed on Saturday found that she died of blunt force trauma.

By Sunday, there was a roadside memorial to remember the young woman who lost her life. Neighbors said she had been planning to go to school to be a medical assistant and was just on the verge of starting a new life.

"I just want her family to have closure," said Isabelle Sabyanchuk, who knows the family and stopped by the roadside memorial on Sunday to offer a prayer. "I know it's so hard for them. Come forward, that's all we ask."

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area, specifically around 9 p.m. on May 9.

Police believe Tupikova, who lived in Battle Ground, was walking along the road at that time and was possibly hit by a vehicle.
