PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police briefly closed a Northwest Portland street Friday morning after someone spotted a suspicious device in a garbage can.

One officer told KATU the object was “an inert bazooka round.”

Officers closed Northwest Everett Street between 5th and 6th avenues while a member of the bomb squad investigated. They determined the object was not dangerous and reopened the streets just before 6 a.m.

Police told KATU they did not believe the object was a live explosive. They closed the street as a precaution.
