Police: Man armed with AK-47 threatens construction workers

PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested a man who they said threatened a group of construction workers with a loaded AK-47 assault rifle in Northeast Portland Wednesday morning.
Police said Charles Edward Larson, 43, went to a home near Northeast 11th Avenue and Church at around 10 a.m. and threatened the group of workers.
No one was hurt.
Police said when they arrived, officers saw the suspect in a white truck. The truck began to drive away, but officers yelled for him to pull over and he obeyed.
Officers arrested Larson without incident. He faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, intimidation, menacing, reckless driving and DUII.
Larson was intoxicated and angry because he objected to Hispanic people getting construction jobs, according to Portland Police spokesman Robert King.
Police took Larson to the Multnomah County Jail where he is being held on $15,000 bail.

Darn it! I thought for sure this story would mean that RalphCramden had finally been arrested for following through on his racist, gun toting talk. So sad, he's still here posting, he's all talk.
As a liberal,I hate to admit..I really want to shoot a ak-47 at least one time in my life.
@noneofyourbizzness You could always just do that, it is a right of yours. Of course doing so would require the radical act of embracing freedom, which is in keeping with the latin root of the word liberal,  and rejecting what your dear leader which is anti-civil rights demagogy.
Blame republicans, Blame democrats, yadda yadda yadda. Not sure why everyone is making excuses for this drunk. I am sure I did not cover all the facts,......oh, he is stupid too. That about covers it.
I can see him being angry with all the illegals taking jobs from US citizens.
@RalphCramden I believe in increasing the jobs for our American morticians, urn makers and those that handle cremations......Perhaps Gary Haugen could take of few of them with him..
Very understandable... He's fed up with the two headed snake (repubicrat party) allowing illegal aliens to steal jobs from honest hard working Americans. As long as the two headed snake has a stranglehold on this country; nothing will get better... except for the 1%.
 @gjUhnhwwMspREtÂ
Yup.
Â
The repubs like them for their cheap labor and the democraps like them for their illegal votes.
Â
Bottom line is that legal citizens are screwed.
@RalphCramden  @gjUhnhwwMspREt And you like to knock them around like punching bags because they can not defend themselves.
 @gjUhnhwwMspREtÂ
That makes no sense. If he were fed up with the politicians, he'd have gone with his rifle to a political office of some sort, not a construction site full of the lowest level of workers.
Will someone on this thread that is smarter than I am please tell me what a person is supposed to do when they are so fed up with ORYGUN' politics whose voices are so muffled by the Left Wing Liberal Loon's is supposed to do? Mr. Larson would never have fired a shot - even though he had been allegedly drinking he made his point so those of us that still believe in the U.S. could read and comment about a man few of us would ever have the guts to do. I am a retired sheriff and if folks really believe illegal's are where its at, you have no f@#$%^& idea what is coming...
"Sheriff Rosco Coltrane", ya right, with that mentality probably sheriff of hazzard county right ? What a dufus !
@boned Drunk in the morning of a weekday, believing that he's out of work not because he's drunk every morning but because of illegals.. we can all make up details about the guy.
@EnoughAlready @boned So does everyone work from 9 to 5 Monday thru Friday? Think NOT!!!!! Being in the US illegally should be a capitol offence and should be dealt with in the same manner as Gary haugen has been asking for but one dumb Gov. seems to enjoy playing games with voters. I would not shed a tear of if those here illegally shared a gurney with Haugen.
@Max Quinn @Max @EnoughAlready @boned No I am not, they are given the opportunity to self deport, in addition we could post big signs are the border in mexican warning them to enter LEGALLY and what happens if they don't.....What did your proctologist say?
@FreerideNOT  @Max  @Max  @EnoughAlready  @boned Again, you don't seem to understand that your are advocating mass executions of people. There may be medications that can help you.
@Max Quinn @Max @EnoughAlready @boned Oh it would not be that many, they would have the option of leaving on their own, those NOT given a choice are those illegals arrested/convicted of additional crimes (murder/drugs/rape etc.) or those who have illegally entered more than once, or are taking US taxpayer dollars while not being here legally. BTW:Consult with your proctologist so you can find both your heads.......Come here legally I have no issue.
@FreerideNOT  @Max  @EnoughAlready  @boned So you're okay with killing a few million people because they come here looking for jobs that employers happily give them. Go see a doctor.
@Max Quinn @EnoughAlready @boned 1st offence deportation is fine second offence the they visit the cremetory. Illegals should be treated like any other parasite, vermin or invasive species. These people know full well they are taking from the tax payers, have no legal right to be here. When you have a mouse in your house what do you do?
@FreerideNOT  @EnoughAlready  @boned If you seriously think illegal aliens should be executed, you need to get your mental condition diagnosed.
Oh ! Now I noticed the posting time...put the beer down and go to bed, your grammer is slurring !
Ah, you do know NE Portland isn't bordered on the south side by the rio grand right ?? You drinking too ??
@FreerideNOT  @Festivus  @EnoughAlready  @boned Can we just settle on margaritas?
@Festivus @EnoughAlready @boned Sorry would never drink Corona, this beer has got to be directly from the urinals of mexico.
@dynamited77 @EnoughAlready @boned We are NOT california the sate that condons criminal activity and welcomes those that are the worst aka illegals into the US. I support the use of cremations for illegals
@FreerideNOT  @EnoughAlready  @boned We elected our governor, elections have consequences, deal with it. California has a ballot measure to abolish the death penalty has a waste of money. Other states have banned it due the unlevel legal system that convicts many innocents.
@FreerideNOT  @Festivus  @EnoughAlready  @boned McFly, McFLY!  How far is it from Cornelius to the Mexican border?
Â
No, I didn't forget the meeting. Â I'm bringing the chips, salsa, and the Coronas. Â You were bringing a rope, as I recall.Â
@Festivus @EnoughAlready @boned Gee Festivus I thought it was just a swim across the Rio and wa la your in the land of milk and honey where your criminal acts are rewarded. Where did you get thousands of miles? Yes they should be rewarded with a free cremation......BTW: forgot where our secret meeting place was? I am pro legal anti ilegal!!!!!!!
@FreerideNOT  @EnoughAlready  @boned Nice.  You equate a murderer with a guy from Mexico who comes to a strange country thousands of miles from his family, works his a** off all day long bent over in a field, goes to bed alone at night and wires most of his money back home.
Â
You don't have to be pro-illegal to see that there's a fundamental difference between the two.
@boned Mr. Boned, those of us who believe in the U.S. are under no obligation to sympathize with a guy who threatens people with a loaded AK-47. The only point he made is that he's an idiot.Â
 @boned move?

He went about getting his message across the wrong way. He perhaps should have carried a protest sign of some type mentioning "illegal aliens" that enter the U.S.A.
Â
Now he will be paying for a long time. As long as people allow "illegal" entry into this country, it will only get worse. the U.S. government needs to enforce the laws...plain and simple.
Â
@Just Lookin I'm not against guarding the border in principle, but I'm against it in the practical.  I don't want the US to become South Korea with a 2000 mile demilitarized zone with mine fields, machine gun nests, a ten foot high wall, and all the infrastructure required to man it.  I can't even blame those who come here to work - I'd do the same for my family in the same circumstances.
Â
If there's no market in the country for their employment, they will stop coming and the problem will fix itself. Â
@Festivus  @Just Lookin Agricultural work will always be around, and last year they claimed several million more workers could have been used. The problem with the workers is the lottery system.
If a farmer hires a worker from Mexico on a visa and they do a good job for him, the worker then returns to Mexico and may or may not get a visa the next time. There is no advantage for that worker over any other getting to return.
The farmer wants to keep the guy and has land.. maybe a trailer or shed.. and you have a US employer deciding to let someone stay past their visa's expiration rather than also play the lottery and hope to get a good worker the next season.Â
That's how I've seen it happen anyway, I'm not sure where the people running the wrong way up the freeway to cross in San Ysidro are headed though.
@ThePosterFormerlyKnownAsPhredE  @Festivus  @Just Lookin Right, the worker arrived with a work visa along with the rest, the season ended, and the farmer provided a place for his best performing workers to remain over the winter.Â
I didn't say it was legal, but the next year he still has proven workers rather than another random draw, though now they're illegals. That's likely why the penalties were focused on the employer for so long, but they're after a profit like anyone.
A merit system for sponsoring individuals for visas would eliminate at least that rationalization for ignoring the laws.
@EnoughAlready  @Festivus  @Just Lookin "US employer deciding to let someone stay past their visa's expiration"
An employer cannot decide that -- only the US Federal government can.
Employers can only hire/retain people that ALREADY HAVE work authorization (barring some specialized cases in non-immigrant visas statuses). In most cases, the duration of the visa is only applicable when tied to a single employer.
Where's his outrage at the construction company doing the hiring without using e-verify?
Â
The workers are filling a market that only exists with the complicity of small businesses.
@Festivus And big business too in many cases.
One of the bright spots with regard to Presidential politics, is that Romney has said he supports mandatory / nationwide use of E-Verify to screen all hires, whereas, Obama...well, 'not so much'.
Â
Â
Â
 @ThePosterFormerlyKnownAsPhredE  @Festivus Yea, that's a real bright spot...
If you think for a minute that Willard and his Republican buddies are going to do anything about immigration other than make noise about a border fence, you are living in a dream world. The Republicans deprive business of readily available cheap labor comprised of people without any rights? Not gonna happen.Â
I agree with Charles Edward Larson's anger and this should go over big with all the folks that believe it is perfectly OK as we work towards to another 3rd World Country especially in Portland that has become a sanctuary city for illegals'...
El es muy loco.... translation... koko for coco puffs...
@Funky-Munky Coco for kookoo puffs? LOL!
"Larson was specifically looking to threaten Hispanic construction workers and had gone to the site to object to Hispanic people getting construction jobs, Portland police said."
Â
¡Ay, caramba!
He is mad because Hispanic people getting construction jobs? Â What is wrong with people. Â
Â
David Kobbeman
I can understand the guy's reasoning. Â He hit it right on the head. Â But, don't blame it all on the Hispanics. Â There are a lot of deadbeats out there who won't do the work the Hispanics do, for any amount of money. Â If they weren't so lazy, they could have jobs also, but, they would rather lay around and complain instead of working.
@boomer Or stand on the freeway off ramp with a cardboard sign.
Â
@boomer The gentlemen I am fortunate to know from south of the border have a phenomenal work ethic. They each have 2 or 3 jobs and send most of their earnings back home to give their families a better life there.
Â
I guess some people think it's easier to get drunk and threaten others than to go out and get a job. If US workers had the same work ethic as the immigrants, there would be no jobs available for them.
@Mikey  @boomer So, you're lumping illegals in with the people that waited in line, got work authorization, continue to play by the rules and pay their taxes? Wow, just wow.Â
Â
"send most of their earnings back home to give their families a better life there"
How does that help the US and it's citizens???
Â
Remember, that to LEGALLY/ LAWFULLY work in the US, requires formal authorization for any non-citizen by the government. Not just anyone can 'show up' and take a job -- LEGALLY.
everybody has different work ethics, it doesn't matter what color or where you are from. Most Americans have a better standard of living, come from a better family and don't need to work so hard because they have friends, family, spouses, and government help. Some of the Mexican immigrants,  like other immigrants, come here because they need something more then what they have at home. They are already primed and ready to work harder then us. They did not like the conditions at home and decided to move (whether legally or illegally doesn't matter much in this debate) Just like if I did not like my city, I would move, if I didnt like my state I would move, or my country then I would move. The fact that I take the effort to move shows already how much I am willing to give up and work for. I THINK WE ALL FAIL TO FORGET THAT WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS. THIS LAND WAS ORIGINALLY THE NATIVE AMERICANS WHO are native mexican minus the spanich conquisidor bloodline in there genes from when the spanish invaded mexico and south ameriuca. The rest of Europe came to the north and put the NATIVES on reservations.  @ThePosterFormerlyKnownAsPhredE  @Mikey  @boomerÂ
@Mikey  @boomer "If US workers had the same work ethic as the immigrants, there would be no jobs available for them." But also greater income inequality.
@Mikey @boomer As long as they came here legally with the correct paperwork, I could care less if they work 23 hours a day and send all of the money back...
Â
However a good percentage did not come here legally and are sending those ill gotten gains back...
Â
At last count money sent back from mexican nationals here ot family in mexico accoutn for 1/4 of the GDP of Mexico....
Â
they truly are a leech....
