Milwaukie police: Suspect assaulted man who yelled at him to drive slower

MILWAUKIE, Ore. – Milwaukie police are searching for the suspect who attacked a 59-year-old man in front of his home Thursday night.

Joseph Garvey was punched in the face several times after he yelled at a driver to slow down.

The suspect was driving in the 12200 block of SouthEast 19th Avenue. Garvey said he stopped his car, got out and assaulted him.

It happened just after 9 p.m. Garvey was rushed to OHSU.

"I can barely open my eyes, my nose is busted a couple places and my cheek is swollen. I am talking out of the side of my mouth," said Garvey.

Garvey says he yelled at the man to slow down because the neighborhood is full of kids and pets.

"I was worried about someone getting run over or a dog getting run over," said Garvey.

Police questioned witnesses in the neighborhood, and say they are reviewing a cellphone video of the incident.

Police did not release a suspect or vehicle description.

KATU obtained the video of the incident. Warning, the video is dramatic and shows the beating. There are also what to be appear to be gunshots heard, but that has not been confirmed.
