PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland police are looking into a shooting that left a 54-year-old man injured early Tuesday morning in SE Portland.
Police said they initially responded to a report of a hit-and-run at SE 85th and Powell Boulevard just after 2 a.m.
Officers said they found a 54-year-old man down in the roadway on Powell Boulevard with what appeared to be injuries from a crash. A truck driver told officers he saw the man in the road and pulled over to help, police said.
But once the man was taken to a hospital, police said it was discovered he had been shot and had not been hit by a vehicle. Investigators said the man had serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The victim's name has not been released but police later said he was in critical condition at a local hospital.
Police have not released any suspect information and are asking anyone who has any information about the incident to contact them at 503-823-0400.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Question - Lots of comments about the tattoos - How does one distinguish what was on the man as being prison or gang? Â Honestly - I couldn't tell what they were.
We need a open hunting season on all gang members. Bag um and tag um ! Not one of these idiotic thugs has any redeeming value, now or ever. Always going to be a cancer to our society, so cut out the cancer before it spreads and is too late. I would have just let this guy lay in the road and let the cars finish him off. he got what he knew was coming with his life style so have no sympathy
Where in the story does it give this "victims" life style ? You're an odd AND sad individual to be judge, jury and executioner from a single pic. Hope you never serve on a jury !
@stinger139 I guess I missed the part of this story where the guy is a known gang member. Can you quote it or post the link to the info?
Â
Otherwise it's pretty low to wish harm upon an unknown victim of gun violence.
Those are prison tattoo's. Tells his life story. Most likely it was gang related. Big loss! Why are none of our elected officials addressing the problem? It's like to them as long as we're not as bad as Chicago or Detroit then we are in acceptable bounds and not a real problem.
@stinger139 Local officials aren't addressing the problem because the solution is not popular and they want to stay elected. It's the reason we still have lots of easily solvable problems in this country, too much politics.
God bless the truckers out there!Â
How do you mistake a Gunshot wound for a Massive Bluntforce Trauma that would occure from being hit by a car? Were they thinking it was a Hot Wheels?
@swede760 Abdominal pain, bleeding, laying in the middle of the road. Most people would assume the person was hit by a motor-vehicle. Then once medical help gets there and starts checking they find out that the person was shot. Not a lot of gunshot victims end up in the middle of the street. Seems like a very easy mistake to make.
@Spiffy Yes normally that would be the case but the article said they did not discover that it was a gunshot wound until they got him to the hospital. What kind of Triage is that?
@swede760 Probably couldn't find the gunshot wound among all the tattoos?
Viva la raza!
If that guy is able to talk (English), and not telling LE his name and who shot him, lay him back on the street.
gently
A wild guess here........gang related?
What happened to Portland?
@August100 It's still here. It hasn't gone anywhere.
@August100 ........Vera Katz and Sam Adams.
I wonder if any of those are "incarceration tattoo's"?
The only way to stop a tatooed guy from standing in the road is a good guy with a gun !
Wonder if he's a Ray Bradbury fan ?
That man is very illistrated.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume he was cavorting with unsavory types.
Â
@negativerep You had better be careful. Your assumptions may lead to hurt feelings.Â
Well, it was a "hit", just not with the car. Someone should recognize him from all the tattooing on the body.Â
@washcomom That the "victim has not been identified," usually means that the police have not released his name. This is not always the case, but, just guessing here, with all those tattoos, this man is probably "well known" to the police.
@Mechanic  @washcomom Not necessarily. I know plenty of people who have a lot of tattoos, none of which would be known at all by the police. Just because you have a lot of tattoos doesn't mean that you break the law.
@Jenni S.  @Mechanic  @washcomom Well why don't you just go and give him and his buddies a nice warm cup of hot cocoa and try and understand their feelings? Glad that you know everything.
@Kymberlie2873  @Jenni S.  @Mechanic  @washcomom True. But not "those" kind of tattoos. There is a HUGE difference. And besides, your neighbor didn't end up in the middle of the road with a bullet hole or two either. The judgement comes from the prison type of art seen in the picture, and the call is easy.
@Jenni S.  @Mechanic  @washcomom I was just about to say the same thing, Jenni. We, as a society, are so judgmental & snarky of people with extensive tattoo work. Yes, there are some people that are unsavory that have tattoos. Guess what? There are probably more that are unsavory that don't. My Dad's across the street neighbor has a motorcycle & is a "biker", has a lot of tattoos (both arms and I am sure others I don't see), and is one of the best husbands and fathers there could be. He's been with the same company for over 20 years and has helped my father out immensely since my Mom passed away. What's the old saying: Never judge a book by its cover.Â
Â
I'm not saying this guy is a wonderful person. We don't know yet. But how about giving the benefit of the doubt before assuming anything. Assume...makes an bleep out of you...not me.Â
