Police: Man gets out of jail, robs bank, calls cab

OREGON CITY, Ore. – Police arrested a man who they said robbed an Oregon City bank hours after he was released from jail Tuesday morning and called a cab to drive him away from the area.
David M. Literal robbed the Bank of the West at 1301 Molalla Ave. just before noon, police said. The bank is a few blocks from the Oregon City Police Station, so officers quickly arrived at the scene.
Police found the suspect's jacket with his Clackamas County inmate ID inside.
Lt. Jim Band said officers noticed a cab in the area a few minutes later. They spoke with the cab driver and watched for the man who called the cab, Band said.
Literal showed up and was arrested. Police said he had a “substantial amount of cash on him.”
A spokesperson with the Clackamas County Jail said Literal was released after serving time for failing to appear in court in a Lake Oswego theft case.
David was my first love and I still love him. The Lord forgives him and so should everyone else. You don't know what he's been through. Back off people.
Ok first off this is my older brother you guys are talking about! How would you feel if I knocked someone I didn't know that was related to you. Yes, what my brother did was stupid, no doubt about it, but you guys have no right to insult my family just because we are related to him. Some people have problems even to extremes, but some people choose to learn from those others don't. Just because one person is my family is messed up doesn't mean the rest of us are, but no matter what my big brother does, he is still my big brother and I love him!
This guy came to the  apts I was at today, which is only about  half a block down hilltop rd. behind Wendy's restaurant started knocking on doors paid 50 bucks to a young boy so he could call a cab. Cab came and next thing you know you hear police yelling (get out, get out Now NOW NOW Get out, Now get down) dogs were going crazy, Then tackled him. I was shocked. Never seems s to be a dull moment around here. lolÂ
ABSOLUTELY No MONEY IS AVAILABLE to get him REAL HOUSING, REAL TRAINING, and a GOOD JOB that will allow him to thrive, but there's UNLIMITED FUNDING to lock him up for life....

@August100 Wrong, wrong, wrong. I think this guy will be a burden to others his entire life. I doubt he ever held a responsible job and probably flunked out of school. No amount of public money will fix an irresponsible person with poor judgement.Â

@PeterAWolf @August100 Well... August does have a point. The recidivism rate in this country is horrible. The problem is there is no transition to even try getting these people on the right path for those few who actually want to start going in the right direction in life and then with the criminal history dogging them for the rest of their life pretty much eliminating any decent employment or housing... yeah... there is a point to what he said....
However.... This guy sounds like someone who has no intention of trying to straighten up his life and should be put in to a forced labor camp till he repays society for his damage and learns to straighten his butt up.
Only in Oregon do you get comedy in the news of a jailhouse prisoner being released, doing a crime, and then go back to doing time - all in one day!
In China they would take him out tomorrow after finding him guilty and shoot him ..... stupid people - no effort to reform the poor gentleman!
Wow, these criminals are becoming more stupid by the minute. I guess it does make it easier to catch them, though.
There's another $1-$2 MILLION obligated on American Taxpayers....arresting, convicting, incarcerating, and medical care for Mr. Literal...

What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week - which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men.
And I'll bet the cab driver was going to get a substantial tip.
Somehow a whole bottle of Clorox got into that gene pool !
Sounds like this guy just doesn't want the responsibility and pressure of making his own decisions. Prison is comfortable, warm, three meals a day, free medical, and all he has to do is a few hours of easy work each day. Oh and of course give up ones freedom.

Are people really this stupid?? I can't imagine. First, one takes a bus. Now, this one calls a cab right outside the Police station too. Just save us all some time and money, guys - walk up to a cop, smack him and say "take me back to jail, please."Â
I really can't blame this guy. He's clearly an idiot. I blame the courts, jail, counselors, etc. The story doesn't say if its an early release but I bet it was. They say that they don't have the money for jails but the cost to our society of arresting this guy dozens of times while he commits hundreds of crimes is much higher. Â

@KKStJohn There was a guy 5-6 years ago who was caught trying to break INTO the state pen. He had been released days earlier. He was caught with a loaded Glock, ladder, rope, etc. I guess he just couldn't get enough of that nasty, nasty prison sex.

Well, wait a minute, the correct term since at least the 1980's IS (Whichever) County Correctional Facility, not jail! However, a rose by any other name still has thorns! Â
