Police: Meth lab found inside truck during traffic stop
BURNS, Ore. -- Two people are behind bars after police found a small meth lab in the back of their commercial truck on Saturday during a routine traffic stop along Highway 20, state police said.
Officials said they received complaints that the westbound Freightliner flatbed truck was driving recklessly and may have hit another vehicle.
At around noon on Saturday, officers from Hines Police Department and Harney County Sheriff's Office pulled over the commercial truck on Highway 20 in the west side of Burns.
The driver, Steven Smith, 46, and passenger, Bridget Golding, 39, were both from Jacksonville, Arkansas.
Determining that Smith was intoxicated, officers searched the truck and came across a small, dismantled methamphetamine lab inside of a box, police said.
Local officers contacted the state police Drug Enforcement Section to continue with the investigation before they towed the truck to a secure lot.
Investigators got a search warrant Sunday morning and seized the drug lab and a small amount of meth from inside the truck, both to be used as evidence.
Police arrested Smith for DUII - drugs and the unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine. Golding was arrested for unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine. Both were taken to the Harney County Jail.
The lab was turned over to a Haz-Mat team for disposal.
"Heading down the highway, lookin for adventure..."
From the headline, I thought we were talkin mobile meth lab. What a novel concept.
Holy crap... both of them need another 20 years on thier listed ages to match thier faces.
 @Peregrine Meth does that.
I'm guessing that he drove to Burns from Arkansas straight through, without stopping, is 7 hours and 39 minutes. It would have been quicker, but he had to stop twice to buy a new lighter.
@al_02 ... they certainly would have caught the attention of state police 'cuz they would have to drive at 260 mph to make those 1978 miles from Jacksonville to Burns.....
Look out! Next thing you know Washington will want to legalize it. Losers x 2. He probably pimps her out when they have no meth to sell. That's some fine lookin' horse flesh. If you're from Arkansas. Wait, isn't that Tommy Chong?
 @The Resistance I bet the government could make a profit if they legalized meth with strict controls.  Like, you can have meth, but you're locked in a mental ward where you can do tons of repetitive tasks over and over again, and do all the meth you want.  Basically turn them into factory robots who get paid with meth.  What could possibly go wrong?
 @The Resistance Painting everyone with the same brush are we? You can educate the ignorant but you cant fix stupid.Â
@PDXBEAR --- Sorry for hurting your feelings. I just meant to insult tweakers.
 @The Resistance De-stigmatize man.. Come on now.Â
He looks so tweaked out of his gourd. Good thing these people were taken off the road.Â
Been going on for years. Seen it all before we knew how bad these mobile/home labs were and processed them without any protective gear. Not a big deal, but it makes press and gives folks something to comment on, like me...
So this is like the new "meals on wheels"??
They looked like they are in their early sixties! WOW! Meth really age people fast.Â
Good job on the part of LE. If the tractor belongs to the meth head, then sell it off at auction. Or scrap it out perhaps.
Â
It is too bad this happens, but people are not too bright when they are on drugs.
Â
He's only 46 years old..??? Â Boy, I would've guessed about 20 years older than that... Â
 @margay1 He is going to have trouble making 50.
He'll be on probation still by then, and getting at hiding his operation a bit better!
 @jpk Do you think he is that smart. rhetorical question.
Only avout 25 after the ravages of meth!
 @jpk Kinda like a 'wind chill factor'?
Â
We could call it the 'meth aging factor'.Â
 @margay1 That's exactly what I was thinking.Â
Â
Unfortunately for Mr Smith, the effects of methamphetamine on a body (cosmetic and otherwise) are well documented.

We should have experts at our borders checking everyone for sanity before allowing entry.
 @swede760 Guess that would work... and on the upside we'd have no more politicians.
 @swede760 We'd have to kick the crazies that are here out first.
Geeze they could travel the interstate, and just make some meth when they needed the cash. Kind of scary.
Â
@Luckylucy That has been going on for a while, now. The cops call it a "Mobile meth lab." Sometimes when you see a truck that resembles a u-haul without the emblems, especialy if it looks like it has a crappy paint job, well probably 50% chance of something going on there!
Come on, Arkansas! Keep your garbage in your own backyard! Damn, what a ugly tweeker!
 @iamtroglodite@yahoo.com Thats what the other 49 states say about Oregon and its 'pot' farms in SE Oregon.
 @RandyH  @iamtroglodite@yahoo.com ~  ...chuckle... Probably VERY true..!
 @iamtroglodite@yahoo.com ~  Actually, 2 rather homely tweekers, IMHO...  but I agree with you in re Arkansas keeping it's low-lifes there... we have enough of our own already..!  Â
