Police: Newport man sold meth from home near high school

NEWPORT, Ore. – Police arrested a Newport man who they said sold methamphetamine from his apartment located half a block from Newport High School.
Police served a search warrant at 63-year-old Edward “Larry” Marrazzo’s apartment at 333 NE 2nd Street on Tuesday. They seized methamphetamine, packaging materials, scales and other evidence of drug use, police said.
Marrazzo was arrested and taken to the Lincoln County Jail. He faces charges of unlawful delivery of meth within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of meth, and frequenting/maintaining a place where controlled substances are kept or used.
Wow. Is he subsidizing his social security??
What's so "magic" about selling near a school?  Why did they pick 1,000 ft???  How about 5 miles? How about 50 ft? What difference does it make?
Â
 @Bill Rogers Well it's rather obvious - within the limit, extra punishment.  Outside of the limit, regular punishment.  Not so hard to understand.
Location location location!
What about all the other entrepreneurs that are out there engaged in the same profit making enterprise? Glad they caught one, but I'm sure there are more of them out there.
He's only 63? Looks old enough to be Einstein but nowhere near as smart! LOL
At what age do you stop doing that crap. Jeeez buddy get a clue.
"He faces charges of unlawful delivery of meth within 1,000 feet of a school..."
Â
Just another law that didn't work.
Â
Isn't selling meth already illegal. No one who was selling meth cares about that. So they just pass another law that those selling drugs could ignore.
 @RalphCramden Just another senseless comment that you made without knowing any facts. Selling meth is illegal and selling it next to a school increases the penalties. I guess you just like to post a lot, you don't care if your comments are senseless.
 @The Voice of Reason @yaquinaÂ
It's so rare that anyone does consecutive time that it isn't worth talking about. Almost all time is concurrent especially if the crimes are related which this is.
Â
The maximum penalty for this guy could be up to 25 years. Any bets he gets less than 5?
Â
Â
 @yaquina  @The Voice of ReasonÂ
Both of those are driving infractions and not crimes.
 @RalphCramden  @The Voice of Reason Try telling your story to a State Trooper when speeding in a 'work zone' within 1000 feet of a school...
 @RalphCramden Sorry Ralph, but selling drugs within 1000 feet of a school doubles the fines and the time for the crime, same as any moving violation within a 'work area' on the roads.
Â
I know this fellow and played in dart tournaments years ago with him. Meth has cost him his long time wife, his friends and his job as a licensed lock smith. It is more than sad what this horrible drug has cost Larry in the last ten years.Â
come here little boy. Want some candy
Slow news day? Â Oh MY GOD! Â He's near a school! Â Won't someone PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?!?
Â
Please. Â The guys is a petty drug dealer, nothing more.
 @Travis Beehler I'm sure you won't mind if he sells drugs outside your kids' school. You'd probably go buy some from him.
@The Voice of Reason Yes, because that's exactly what happens. Every kid at that high school bought meth from that guy.
