Police: Ore. flight attendant stole passenger's iPad

OREGON CITY, Ore. — Police said a Nevada man who lost his iPad on an airplane used an app called Find My iPad to locate it inside the Oregon home of a flight attendant.
Officers in Oregon City, outside Portland, arrested 43-year-old Wendy Ronelle Dye Friday evening.
The flight attendant for Horizon Air allegedly denied having the iPad. Police said she later admitted she had it, but told officers that a passenger brought her the tablet saying it was found on a seat.
She said she never used the iPad and planned to turn it over to airline officials, but police found some of her personal information on it including her husband's birthday.
Arrangements are being made to return the tablet to its owner in Reno.
Dye was taken to the Clackamas County Jail. She was released on bail Saturday.
Dye faces charges of theft and computer crime.
A spokeswoman for Alaska Airlines, which owns Horizon, told KATU News Dye was relieved of her duty as a flight attendant pending an investigation by the airline.
Lady hit the bricks. You are such a loser.
Airline Employees take note - if you aspire to seek out the privileged job of being a flight attendant  and on the side line choose to be a felony level thief - you can expect very real criminal consequence like this.Â
Â
Think again. No one reads this story and believes this was the first time this soecific person stole someone else's property while on the "job" for Alaska Airlines. Her excuse is just so unbelievable. While she was personally using someone else's property that she stole and took home she was really intending to return it?Â
Â
Airline employees beware - you are CRIMINALLY LIABLE if you choose to break the laws of this country. Especially the felony theft laws. No mercy if any of you do so. None. No mercy for this woman. At all.Â
Â
Â
She ugly
LOL. Some people are just too stupid.
I like how thses thing are telling owners where they are at by GPS. Then let the cops do the rest.
My wife is a Flight Attendant for a major international airline. First of all "Donald Duck" she makes waaaaaaay more than a burger flipper at McDonalds. Second, her company is anal about internal and external theft. You take a can or coke or a bottle of water from the galley cart.......you are GONE. No appeal, nothing. You are fired. You take something from a passenger and her airline will see to it you are prosecuted to the max. You have lost your job and any chance of getting another one in the aviation industry. ALSO you have lost your lifetime travel benefits. Believe me, this is the most precious perk for anyone who works for the airlines.......free (or nearly free) global travel for life even after you retire for you and your spouse. This is why Wendy's iPad theft was beyond stupid.
@SURFER DUDE first of all major international airlines make way more then a regional. I know people personally who work for horizon air. I know a first officer who only makes 15,000$ a year.. and a few flight attendants who make about the same.  also as long as you are on your overnight and laying over anywhere besides your home base then you are allowed to take a bottle of water or soda beverage with you.. not every airline is the same. clearly you dont know what you are talking about.  but yes her ipad theft WAS stupid and she is now going to have to live with it forever
@donald_duck ...reread my post duck. I was replying to your comment about the average pay of a flight attendant is the same as some flipping burgers at McDonald's. You average out the salary of every regional and major carrier flight attendant, and I guarantee you they make more than a McDonald's person. The operative word is is "average". You referred to it not me. Also, again reread my post...I said my wife's airline has a ZERO tolerance policy regarding the taking of any company property. I wasn't referencing Alaska/Horizon. So before you tell me I don't know what I am talking about, I suggest you read my comment again. Wendy is a thief who will lose her job, travel benefits and quite possibly go to jail.
let's not cast blame on the entire staff of Alaska/Horizon flight attendants, that most of them are honest, and caring hard working folks, who do their best to assure us a safe, pleasant flight......just not Wendy Dye.Â
Hon, common OPPORTUNISTIC thievery is well, common. That is all Wendy Dye is. Just like all of those other common felony level criminals being arraigned in court.Â
Â
Ms. Dye - credit the victim for reclaiming property of his that you never, ever intended to return to him. YOU STOLE HIS PROPERTY AND THEN YOU LIED ABOUT THAT FACT. And that is publicly recorded fact.Â
Â
You intended to steal. You stole. And you were enjoying the fruits of your opportunistic felony theft and you didn't care one bit about Alaska Airlines or this customer whose property you STOLE. And perhaps this was not the first, second or third time you STOLE. STOLE. STOLE.Â
Â
What to do with this thief now? Put her back amongst the personal possessions of innocent unsuspecting Horizon or Alaska Airline customers ever again. Not if I am a paying customer of Horizon/Alaska. No way. No how.Â
She would fit in nicely if she got a job with the TSA.
Okay...this is not good. Really bad decision on her part. But before you start crucifying her on KATU's internet forum, think about the things you've done in your lives that people haven't found out about. Maybe some federal tax creativity, or taking home a pad of sticky notes from work? I'm not saying she shouldn't be fired and prosecuted, I'm just saying she's human and did something stupid. Anyone who says they've never done something dishonest is a liar. It's human nature - whether she's done this once or she's done it 100 times.  Don't be hypocritical, people. JMO.
@Debicakes928 I disagree. I don't think that stealing an iPad that may be worth hundreds of dollars or being "creative" on your federal tax return are minor mistakes. (I'm not sure why you mentioned taking a pad of sticky notes which may cost the office a few cents as though that it is in the same league as the other two items you mentioned. It's still dishonest, though.)
It seems you have far lower standards of human behavior than many others.
@Debicakes928 Hahaha! You're kidding, right? No offense, but if you're feeling guilty, confess. Don't keep looking for excuses to validate thievery. We won't even bother to get into the lack of moral values or loyalty toward your employer and customer. Peh! Think I've thought long enough on it.
@Debicakes928 Debi - this is "not good"? Come on. She indeed is ust like the crackhead addicts who steal just like her. Or anyone else -she is common and a thief. And she volunteered for the label of FELON. Flight attendants don't ALL lower themselves and steal from passengers and lie about it.Â
Â
She is not to be trusted in any position of authority over unsuspecting passengers or their posessions ever again. LIE ABOUT IT ALL - that just put her out on the street. Human beings do get FIRED for crossing lines purposefully on the job. Case in point - the actions of choice of Wendy Dye. She did not have to "do" any of it. Â
Another one bites the dust.
It's good to know that the gps app works.I have it installed on my iPad and phone. It seems like this day and age a person would know that a device is able to be tracked.I would imagine she could easily afford a iPad but she probably got a rush out of stealing things.I'm sure this isn't her first rodeo.
@noneofyourbizzness I don't know about your speculation of Wendy Ronelle Dye getting a rush from stealing but I am pretty sure she didn't wait until she turned 43 to become a thief and a liar. People make poor choices all the time but she needs to pay the price for her dishonesty. My guess is the price she will pay will far exceed any value the iPAD had. At least it will if there is any semblance of justice.
Â
And good luck getting another job. I can hear the conversation now ...
Prospective Employer:Â "Why did you leave your job at Horizon Airlines?"Â
Wendy: "um, well, I, er, I stole from one of the airlines' customers. Apparently Horizon frowns on that."Â
Prospective Employer:  "Oh, I see. NEXT!"
@I812 I've had people leave phones and IPads at the bar where I work. The worst thing we have done is be nosey and look at their photos. You wouldn't believe what kind of things people take pictures of :)
@mikew @noneofyourbizzness It's a ongoing joke.We have got some really good laughs over this.Especially if it's a mean hoochie mama's phone.I don't care if people think its unethical. What are you going to do sue us?
@noneofyourbizzness Why would you be at all interested in what photos people might have on their device? Leaving aside the fact that most would consider such snooping unethical, why would one even want to snoop? I don't see the entertainment value in being a voyeur and laughing at other people.
@Ocean Beautiful No it's not.
@noneofyourbizzness Hate to break this to you, but looking through someone's personal phone or IPad is just as bad as stealing.  Shame on you.
We get people who ask us to carge their phones for them.if they only knew that we were snooping at their pictures.I know it's probably un ethical to look at people's photos but sometimes we get a huge laughThe hoochie mamas usually have the most "entertaining" photos on their phones.
@noneofyourbizzness Oh yes I would.  I have seen some of them by those given to "bragging" as well as some who "inadvertently" let me see. It's a different world out there today with all the built in cameras.Â
The only thing worse than TRASH; is back-pedaling TRASH!!! Even in such a bike friendly city....
Good luck sweetheart, hope it was worth it!
There are dishonest people everywhere...the skies aren't so friendly to fly anymore!

@My2Cents Why would that matter? Why would you want to embarrass her husband and brother-in-law for something they didn't do? Wow.Â

@My2Cents My2cents. She put herself and only herself on the criminal line, here. Unless you are trying to suggest she was operating a theft ring with her husband - from their home.Â
Â
She deserves to be fully investigated as to previous THEFTS reported from Alaska Airlines and from any airport she was privileged to be allowed to enter and be left alone it.Â
Â
She LIED ABOUT IT ALL after the fact which makes her absolutely and totally undeserving of being employed in any privileged paid position for any airline - ever again.Â
No worries, now she's fully trained to work for the TSA.
If you are going to do something as stupid as this, then you had better learn how to 'wipe' it. Unless the 'Find My iPad' app is somehow embedded, you can always reinstall the OS. Seriously, was stealing an iPad really worth losing your job and getting a criminal record? Your husband must be very proud of you.
the Jist of it all....well said " theobserver "....
