Mother stops abduction: 'I just got up and socked him in the face'

PORTLAND, Ore. – An alert mother said she used a 2x4 to wallop a 17-year-old boy who was trying to abduct her young daughter as the girl played outside a home.
Police credited quick action by Antoinette Robinson and neighbors with helping them capture the suspect. He was being held down by neighbors when officers arrived.
Lt. Robert King with the Portland Police Bureau said the attempted abduction happened on Sunday evening around 6:30 near 169th Avenue and Lafayette Street in Southeast Portland.
Robinson became concerned when she heard muffled screams from Xavieria, her 6-year-old daughter. The screams were coming from an area where children were playing.
"She was outside playing with her friend, right by the bush, by the front door and I’m sitting there watching TV, and I thought I heard her call me," Robinson told KATU. "When I looked I saw a man with his hand around her mouth and her body.”
Robinson said the suspect was trying to pull Xavieria into the bushes. She jumped into action and ran at the suspect.
"He put his hand over me, and then he pushed me in the bushes and then my mom came out," said Xavieria. "I thought he was going to take me."
"Motherly instincts. I just got up and socked him in the face and then he let her go," she said. "I went to hit him again and he grabbed my hand and rolled down the hill a little bit, then I got on top of him and started socking him in the face.”
Officers later told her that the suspect was high on mushrooms, Robinson said.
Neighbors heard the scuffle and came to Robinson's aid. She hopped in a car to chase the boy as other neighbors followed him on foot, police said.
"I got out of the car and hit him with a 2x4 and I broke that over him and he took off again," Robinson said. "We’re all chasing him again and good citizens blocked him in somebody’s yard, and being mad, I just stepped in his face.”
Neighbors were holding the suspect down when police arrived and arrested him near 164th and Division.
Surveillance video captured the take-down. It shows the suspect attempting to run away. He trips near a pickup truck and then is surrounded by neighbors who pin him against the truck. At least one of them kicks the suspect a couple times.
Robinson said her family lives in the St. Johns area but was in Southeast Portland for a barbecue.
The suspect was taken to the city’s juvenile detention hall. He faces kidnapping and harassment charges.
KATU.com is not naming the suspect because he is a minor and, as of now, has not been charged as an adult.
School officials say the boy was a wrestler, but is no longer enrolled in high school.
Assault detectives are still investigating the case, King said.

stompin his teeth out? nothing so wrong with that except fat girl will get sued, could be arrested.
It really doesn't matter why she was home and not working or even if she lived there!! In my eyes this mother is a true HERO and she did what any mother would do when you see someone hurting your children. I probably would have beat him a little more though but at the end of the day her daughter is SAFE and not in a bush Dead!!
This woman reminds me of my parents. When my sisters and I were kids (7 of us), if anyone so much as looked a little too long in our direction, my parents would drop kick the person first and ask questions later. They did not play at all. We all thought they were a bit too much but now that I've grown up and seen the way the world is......Yeah, not so much. Way to go mum!
Way to go Mom!!! Â So glad that she heard the commotion and jumped to action! Â It sounds like they have some great neighbors around that house too! Â I love hearing cases like this where crimes are prevented. Â I praise God that the little girl is safe and sound:)
She did whart she was supposed to do and then some but out of curosity, shouldn't she have been working instead of sitting in front of a tv set ? The earlier news story said she lived there and was watching tv and now the article states she lives in St Johns but was attending a barbecue..which is it ?
@Mazda84.. This mom just stopped her daughter from being raped and possibly murdered and all you can think about is if she lived there or not???? Get a Life Seriously!!
@Mazda84 Most people don't have work at 6:30pm on Sundays. If you watch the video, it says she was both attending a barbeque and watching TV- she went to the house for the BBQ but took a break in the house and started watching TV while the daughter played outside with other kids, she heard her daughter scream and that is when she went outside.
Next time use a 4x4 so it won't brake. Good job.
NIce job Mom!!!!  I love that this neighborhood pulled together and chased this guy down!  Bet he won't be going back to THAT neighborhood again!  lol  This Mom is my Hero!  You go girl! Â
Good for you, momma!
Good job mom!
Good on ya. People doing what they have to do. And Antoinette did it !!
Reminds me of a poem:
Â
"When the early Jesuit fathers preached to Hurons and Choctaws,
They prayed to be delivered from the vengeance of the squaws.
'Twas the women, not the warriors, turned those stark enthusiasts pale.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male."
Â
Way to go, mama!
Way to go Mom!!! Â Like it is said "If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!!"
Â
I'm so glad to hear little Xavieria wasn't taken. Â I bet this was a scary situation for her, but she was so brave to call for help and did a great job!!
Every neighborhood needs an Antoinette Robinson! I would seriously love to have this lady as my next door neighbor. I'm glad that little sweetie is safe and sound. Let's hope this jackass gets some serious time behind bars. DON'T MESS WITH MAMA, OR YOU'RE GETTING A BEAT DOWN!
Where was little "Xavieria's poppa while this was all going on, at work?
@I_Miss What the hell that does that have to do with ANYTHING?
@I_Miss
my question too and why wasn't she working like many people do instead of sitting in front of a tv as the earlier news story stated ?Now they have her living elsewhere and attending a barbecue...
@Mazda84  @I_Miss you forgot to mention food stamps, Obama phones etc. goober
@I_Miss they dont live here ,, they were visiting from another state
@mrsd1975 It says they live in the St. John's area - They don't live in another state...
@I_Miss It really doesn't matter, it looks like mom took that guy on just right!
YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!
Mushrooms? Ha! I'm not buying it. High on mushrooms, drunk on alcohol, etc. is no excuse for why someone chooses to kidnap or sexually assault a child (or another adult). Blaming substance abuse for something like this assault is just an unfounded scientifically debunked >excuse< for his rapist/kidnapper tendencies. This guy would do this sober or not; he already has the inclinations. The mushrooms (IF he even took them, and I doubt that he did but rather is using it as a lame excuse to try and reduce charges of being a pedophile) might at the very most simply relax his inhibitions a little (like alcohol does) to act out on his ongoing daily thoughts and fantasies. Kudos for Antionette Robinson for being an attentive, active mother who could spring into action because she was paying attention to her child.
@whirledworld ..THANK YOU!!
 @Teejlir777  @whirledworld : ) : ) : )
That oughta learn him!
HELL YEAH!!!!!!! Don't mess with MA MA!!!! He's lucky she didn't have a gun. Son of b$%&!
Best story I've read all day!    Job VERY well done, "Mama Bear" AND Neighbors..!  :-)
Â
Those are the kind of neighbors we had when I grew up in Tucson ('50s)... We knew our neighbors back then, and we watched out for each other...  I'm glad to see that it hasn't entirely disappeared..!  Â
I was sitting in my yard yesterday when 4 boys came by and one of them was exhausted. A few minutes later a car full of women came looking for them. they said he tried to take her baby!! my daughter saw the boys go right. Iwas headed to womens ministry and my daughter told me theres the car thats looking for them. It appeared they turned left. So i told her i would take her to where they would be if she had went right, As soon as we turned on division there he was, right there in the Les Shwab parking Lot. I watched "Mom" hop out and smack him right in the side witht he 2x4. she was exhausted as well, neither of them could hardly run. they were screaming not to let him get away, so locals blocked him from going much further. A couple guys came out and i told them that guy attempted to take a little girl could you please get him and just holdhim because everyone is out of energy. And those men did, and it was great. Way to go SE portlanders who helped with this. Very good example to say no to drugs!!!
This story needs to go national. CNN? ABC? Pick this one up.
@Kennyboy You know Nancy Grace will be ALL OVER this one!  Being the Momma bear that she is! Â
@myopinion73  @Kennyboy pffftt wrong color little girl for Nancys crowd
Great job Mom! When I read the part about the 2 x 4, I knew it was going to be good. Way to go, taking care of business, and the neighbors and concerned citizens pitched in. That is a great job by all involved.
"I just got up and opened a can of whoopass on him!"Â Yeah, Momma!! Antoinette Robinson should be presented with a gold-plated baseball bat with spikes and a plaque to hang it on till it's needed next!Â
Â
Ah, such wonderful news!! I just love it when these creeps get the you-know-what kicked out of them. 2x4...LMAO!!
this makes it the third story where the perp gets his just deserts, . maybe people will stop messing with kids if this keeps up, maybe perps will take a wising up. Leave us alone the police won't deal with you but we will.
That must have felt so good putting he hurt on that guy. I can just see this mother schooling this guy on the finer points of respect and teaching him proper boundaries.
Kind of reminds me of this story.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNGUfNlvNDo
Â
"I told them to get back and then I wore him out with that stick"
"as he was trying to get out of the business, they kept pulling him back in and beating him!"
Gotta love it, the cops seem to!
2x4=8 knots on the head!
Best story of the day.
That idiot messed with the wrong Mama Bear!!!! Way to go MOM!!! Never EVER underestimate the fury that can be unleashed on someone who hurts a child when the Mom is within reach!
Great Job Antoinette Robinson and her Friends  !!!!
We all need to start taking care of not only Ourselves but Others, maybe then instaed of us being afraid of the nut jobs, the nut jobs will be afraid of us! I am so sick of these punk ass kids that sit around all day getting high on what ever they can and screwing up everything for everyone else! Get a life!!! Get a job, Mcdonalds is hiring!!!
Mama Bears are awesome.Â
Awesome response, mom!
Way to go, Mom! I am so glad that you were able to get to your daughter in time! In today's world, we must always be on guard and aware where our kids are at all times.
OregonLive identifies the 17 year old that has been charged and arrested. Yes your suspicions are correct.
the perp has a bright future in republican politics
@swimmer Why can't anything be just a news story, without being polarized?
@swimmer only ignorant neanderthals would try to make this political
@swimmerNo, I think he probably works with the Obama campaign as a community organizer...Â
