KEIZER, Ore. – Police said a 17-year-old Keizer boy shot his parents in their home late Wednesday night, killing his mother and seriously injuring his father.

Brett Pearson and his friend, 17-year-old Robert Daniel Miller II, were arrested on murder charges.

Officers responded to the shooting at 4826 Ventura Loop North at 11:30 p.m. after they learned that an alarm was activated inside the home.

When police arrived, they found Michelle Yvonne Pearson, 44, dead inside the home. It appeared she was shot to death, police said. The state medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

Police said Pearson's husband, 57-year-old Wilfred "Bill" Pearson, was also shot. He was taken to a Salem hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Police expect him to survive.

Officers did not find anyone else in the home when they arrived. Investigators learned that the couple's son, Brett Pearson, and his friend, Miller, left the home in a vehicle before they arrived.

Police took Brett Pearson into custody around 1 a.m. Thursday after an officer spotted him driving in Keizer.

Investigators learned Miller was at a Salem hotel and took him into custody.

The two boys were taken to the Marion County Jail. They are scheduled to appear in court to face charges on Friday. In addition to murder charges, they also face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and attempt to commit murder.

KATU is naming the 17-year-old suspects because they are accused of committing Measure 11 crimes and will be charged as adults.
