PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested an 18-year-old man who they said went on a crime spree through downtown Portland Saturday night.

Police said they responded to a series of incidents near Pioneer Square at around 7:30 p.m. A man working for Downtown Clean and Safe told police he was pressure-washing the sidewalk when a man knocked his hat off and put a cigarette out on his face.

Police later identified the suspect as 18-year-old Anthony Jonah Farris.

While officers were in the area they were flagged down about an assault that happened in front of the Nines Hotel. Police said Farris walked up to a man and hit him with a metal-tipped umbrella, which resulted in a gash on the victim’s head.

Police found Farris on Southwest Broadway between Yamhill and Morrison Streets. When officers tried to take him into custody, Farris fought back and spit in their faces, according to police.

After Farris was in custody, police learned he allegedly assaulted a valet at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, located at 850 Southwest Broadway. Police said he also tried to steal the cash box with money and customers’ car keys inside, but he was not successful. He punched the valet and walked away, police said.

Police booked Farris into the Multnomah County Jail. He is due in court on Monday.

He faces the following charges:

•    Assault
•    Assaulting a public safety officer (2 counts)
•    Aggravated harassment (2 counts)
•    Resisting arrest
•    Attempted assault
•    Attempted theft
•    Disorderly conduct

Bail was set at $277,000.
