Police arrested a 33-year-old Gresham man who they said got into a man’s car and robbed him while he was driving Saturday afternoon.
Sgt. Dan Kraus with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was driving on Sunnyside Road just west of Highway 212 when he came upon Ramon Manuel Gonzalez standing in the middle of the road. As the driver tried to go around Gonzalez, he got into the back seat of the car and threatened the driver with a knife, telling him to empty his pockets, Kraus said.
The driver began hitting Gonzalez with a metal thermos. Gonzalez dropped the knife, grabbed the man’s driver’s license and got out of the car through the back window. The driver called 911.
Sheriff’s deputies and police from Happy Valley and Demascus spotted Gonzalez getting into a car driven by his wife about an hour later. Neighbors who reported Gonzalez was knocking on doors on Southeast Rock Creek Court led police to the area.
Police took Gonzalez to the Clackamas County Jail. He faces one count of first degree robbery.
