PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested a naked man who was playing a violin outside the U.S. Courthouse in downtown Portland on Friday.
Matthew Thomas Mglej, 25, refused to walk to the police car under his own power and had to be carried, according to police.
Police said they do not know if Mglej is the man’s true last name.
Officers received numerous complaints about the naked man. Police warned him that he was violating Portland city code and if he continued he would be arrested.
City code says, “It is unlawful for any person to expose his or her genitalia while in a public place or place visible from a public place, if the public place is open or available to persons of the opposite sex.”
Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson said the number of complaints, time of day and public location were factors in the arrest.
Simpson said police do not enforce the indecent exposure code during Portland's World Naked Bike Ride as long as participants keep moving and stick to the ride route.
Mglej was taken to the Multnomah County Jail on one count of indecent exposure.
