Police arrest registered sex offender in Steel Bridge sex assault

PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested a registered sex offender who they said sexually assaulted a woman on Portland’s Steel Bridge last month.

Detectives arrested Clarence Ray Williams, 47, on Wednesday. He faces charges of rape in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, robbery in the third degree and aggravated identity theft.

Police said a 20-year-old woman called 911 to report that a stranger sexually assaulted her on the east end of the Steel Bridge on March 11. The woman told police she was able to fight the man off.

The suspect, later identified as Williams, stole the woman’s bank cards.

Police took Williams to the Multnomah County Jail.
