Police arrest suspect in stolen coins case

WOODLAND, Wash. – Police in Woodland have made an arrest in a stolen coins case.
Dakoda Garren stole 15 boxes of coins from Sharon Waldron, who kept the collection in her garage, police said. Garren was doing yard work for Waldron and his girlfriend was doing house work.
Waldron said some of the coins date back to the 1700s. The collection of gold and silver coins included what Waldron said was an authentic Abraham Lincoln presidential campaign token and Morgan silver dollars minted in the late 19th century.
Her son notices the coins were stolen earlier this summer.
Of the 15 stolen boxes, only six coins have been recovered, according to police.
Garren admitted to stealing them and using them to pay for food, gas and bills. He told police he dumped some of the coins into a Coinstar machine and sold some rare ones to coin shops.
He faces theft and trafficking stolen merchandise charges.
OMG what an $#%^& Don't trust anyone any more! and don't store a valuable collection of something in the garage!
They're stupid. They steal. They're trash. Sign them up for a section 8 house, foodstamps and a free cell.
It's people like the victim that makes a lot of crime possible. If you remove the temptation from plain sight then most people won't steal. I know, it's a sad commentary on our country today, but it is the truth.....
Sheesh... you'd think Coinstar would have some sort of system in place that would catch something that would be an obvious sign of a crime - like thousands of dollars worth of rare coins showing up in their machine for pennies on the dollar!
It's sad that this had to happen but why did she store them in her garage? Shouldn't she have kept them in a safe deposit box or at least in the house, perhaps in her bedroom closet, out of site?
Thieves! What freaking boneheads, using a Coinstar for rare coins.  The police should be able to track some of them down through Coinstar. It probably is pretty rare for them to get barber head quarters and other old coins.

@Saltire Good show sir! Never seen a quarter, but plenty of dimes. LOL, nice.
I remember reading this recently, and hoping she would get them all back. Some piece of garbage stole from this lady and then put her rare coins into a coinstar? That's like turning a Ferrari for scrap.
