Police arrest suspects in SE Portland bar robbery
PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested two men who they said robbed a bar Saturday in Southeast Portland.
It happened at Coasters Bar and Grill at 6015 SE Powell Blvd. just after 11:30 a.m.
Police said one man robbed the bar at gunpoint while the other waited in a getaway car.
Police arrested Edward Stanley Hauer, 51, and Julian Everett Matthews, 32. Hauer was the gunman and Matthews was the getaway driver, police said.
Police said Hauer was also involved in the following robberies:
• Dotty’s Deli on Aug. 25
• Loto’s Deli on Sept. 18
• Bob and Alice’s Bar on Sept. 21 and Oct. 20
• Coasters Bar and Grill on Oct. 29
Hauer faces six counts of robbery and Matthews faces two counts, police said. Both men were taken to the Multnomah County Jail.
They used a toy gun. Â I know one of the victims.
Two more people in the '... world owes me a living...' camp. After all, there's enough wealth to go around, right? These two simply missed out on their share for some reason.
Â
More gun laws? Aren't there already laws about robbery and theft? If passing a law would fix the problem, the problem would already be solved, wouldn't it? But it isn't solved; so why not? Is it possible that blaming human conduct on an inanimate object is a waste of time?Â
Â
The article said Matthews drove the getaway car. There's the problem; cars! Without a car, this crime spree would have NEVER happened. So let's ban cars! (As if Portland were not working on this already.) Banning cars would also stop drive by shootings and many illegal sexual encounters as well. So many problems solved so easily.
Â
Just for the record, the ONLY reason for government to remove firearms from private hands is to render the populace incapable of resisting tyranny. Since the time of Sumer until now, it's always been the same.
Â
As for Hauer and Matthews, they need to learn to conduct themselves in polite society or be isolated from polite society - which ever is more likely to be effective.
I think the charge of armed robbery covers the gun law, kinda easy to figure out.. But since Ralph is a sore loser and Obama is still the president he now wants less handgun laws.. Fact, we have far too many handguns in this country, it is far too easy to get a handgun and most violent crimes are committed with handguns.. So is seems just hateful to want to keep our current handgun laws.. But I'm sure Ralph would change his tune if someone killed one of his family members with a handgun they bought just yesterday at the gun shown and the guy has numerous convictions..
Oh no, I'm wrong, he's conservative, I forgot, they don't even care about family members, they only love money.. My bad !
 @dougrpdx exactly what drugs are you on? or are you just lacking a brain?  I can assure you conservatives care more about their families do then left wing liberal baby killers ever will.Â
Middle aged white tweekers. They fit the profile for armed robbery.
Judge people by their actions - NOT by their looks.
I agree with Ralph...it also doesn't say whether these two had a past record...if so, added felon in posession charge, plus several others. Perhaps this charge is just preliminary to keep them locked up while they figure what additional charges to file.
 @flyingtimeÂ
Keeping them in jail on these initial charges might be exactly as you say. Hopefully there will be some firearm charges.
How about some weapons charges? We have tons of firearms laws on the book but none of them are ever enforced. Yet the liberals want more gun laws. How stupid is that?
 @RalphCramden I always thought it was the INTELLIGENT who wanted gun control laws.
Laws that would help to ensure the mentally ill do not have guns; laws to help prevent former felons from owning them....the Hauer fellow is linked to several crimes so I would not be surprised if he had an extensive past. Â And yes, some weapons laws Are enforced and will be at trial...you Know this. Â
 @BCH momÂ
Gun laws are rarely prosecuted or even used in most cases. The reason is that if they are convicted along with a felony charge the sentence is served concurrently so the prosecutor keeps it simple and only goes after the most serious charges.
Â
There are already laws that restrict certain mentally ill people from purchasing a gun. The incidence of mentally ill people killing someone with a gun is the same as someone who is not mentally ill killing someone with a gun. The myth that mentally ill folks are more dangerous is just that, a myth. The mentally ill folks are just easy pickings and in reality just adds to the stigma of being mentally ill.
Â
In the US in all states all felons are banned from purchasing or possessing a gun unless they have gone through a court process to get that right back. If they were convicted in federal court then the president would have to commute that sentence to get their gun rights back.
Â
Â
 @RalphCramden Just wait - right after Omama was re-elected we crawled in to bed with the UN in regards to gun control. I just ordered a bunch of new .45 & .44 magnum...
 @boned You're not very bright, are you?
What say you go back and READ the article instead of just pretending you understand it from the headline?

 @Mikey  @bonedÂ
This is just one step towards confiscation. That's how freedoms go away. It is rarely an overnight thing unless it is a coup d'état or declaration of martial law. In the US martial law does not suspend the rights of the constitution unless we are under attack of there is open rebellion.
Â
Rights slowly disappeared in Germany and took about 9 years to where folks were being rounded up and taken to concentration camps.
Â
One person can move a mountain. It just takes one shove full of dirt at a time. Soon the mountain is gone. If more people work on moving the mountain it will go away much faster.
Â
The agenda of the antigun crowd is to slowly chip away at who can own a gun and who can't. They slowly remove one group at a time and increase the legal criteria of who can own a gun. The mentally ill have been singled out even though there is no evidence that they commit more gun crimes than any other segment of honest law abiding citizens. Usually the mentally ill are content to just hurt themselves.
Â
Another aspect of the antigun crowd is to limit access to guns. Suing gun manufacturers out of existence was popular for a while till the SCOTUS got involved and stopped that. Now they are going after ammo to try and stop legal gun owners from getting ammo. Some have proposed huge taxes on ammo that make it unaffordable to everyone except the very wealthy.
Â
Just one step at a time. And soon our freedoms are gone. It happens so slowly that we never see them going away and one day we wake up and wonder what happened.
 @bonedÂ
I am stocking up also. Most of what I am getting is .22LR. I have a 8 .22 pistols/rifles and at least 2000 rounds of ammo for each.
Â
All my other firearms are NATO chambered (.308, .223, 9mm) and Soviet 7.62x39. That way I can use what they leave behind. If it all comes apart it will be difficult to get exotic rounds and picking up brass is not an option.
They're just misunderstood..
Strike, one, strike two, strike three....go to jail, straight to jail, do not pass go.
Â
These two messed up royally. Now they get to do some time behind bars, hopefully regretting their stupid mistakes. Robbing numerous businesses, he deserves some really long time behind bars.
"The partners that stray together, stay together."
They make such a cute couple. See how happy they are!!
In this 'down' economy, not everybody can wait 3-4 years to get a degree.
Some of them decide to go out an do 'internship' work, and go for what pays off immediately.
Unfortunately for this pair, they failed their finals, and are now back to remedial 'B&E 101'.
The up-shot here being, they'll get a scholarship to the School of Hard Knocks, and have all sorts of 'mentors'!
Homey on the left looks seriously creepy...have fun in jail! Â All he needs is elvish ears (like spock)!
 @portlandborn83 Now don't go insulting the poor Vulcans!!
 @portlandborn83 Ehh...he's in that transitional Elf-to-Orc stage. When the Dark Power corrupted the Elves and created it's servants, this guy had the foolish notion that he'd be first in line for a catapult operator job. The harsh reality is, he's simply cannon-fodder for the 'Rob & Ruin Brigade'. (But, just think of how much Peter Jackson could save on make-up costs by recruiting somebody like this who is 2/3 of the way to being a 'real' goblin!)
 @Don_Keyshow  @portlandborn83 Nienna would be ashamed of you, you know.
How could a couple of smart-looking fellows like these two possibly get caught?
 @Old29 I think it's sad. What happened in these guys' lives that messed them up so badly they would try to rob a bar in broad daylight?
Five armed robberies. They'll be lucky if they just get 15 years
