Standoff at Longview auto shop ends peacefully

LONGVIEW, Wash. – Police took into custody a woman who was armed and negotiated with officers for four hours before surrendering. She's been taken to St. John's Medical Center for observation.

This happened on Vandercook Way at Carl’s Towing Service and Repair.

The incident started around 4:30 p.m.

Police with guns drawn tried to to contact the woman. Several surrounding businesses were evacuated. Everyone inside of the auto shop got out safely.

There were several people in the shop when the woman went inside. Some of those people told a KATU reporter that the woman said she needed help and wanted to get her story out to the media and the police. She said something about Social Security, according to workers at Carl's. She said she did not intend to hurt anyone.

No one was hurt.
