Burglary suspect not inside apartment after standoff in Hillsboro
Tactical teams respond to a four-plex apartment complex in Hillsboro where they say they believe there is a suspected burglar holed up.

HILLSBORO, Ore. - After seven hours outside a four-plex apartment building with a suspected burglar believed to be holed up inside, police went in and discovered there was no one there.

Police said the suspect had fled the building before they were able to contain it.

Police said someone spotted a burglary in progress at 2905 S.W. Cornelius Pass Road at about 1:30 p.m. Police said a witness said the suspect had gotten into the apartment by kicking a hole in a wall from an adjoining unit. Police believed the suspect had stolen guns from the apartment and then hid in the attic.

Police had no luck in contacting the suspect, and at about 8:30 p.m. they went inside and found no one was there.

Police said the suspect remains at large and he is a white man in his 20s.

Police said a friend of the man had been tweeting that the suspect had warrants out on him and didn't intend to surrender. Police said that information wasn't true.

Cornelius Pass Road was closed between Johnson and TV Highway during the incident.
