PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police are looking for two men after a violent incident in a downtown parking garage early Monday morning.

Police said they were called to the SmartPark garage on Southwest Third Avenue and Alder Street at 5:42 a.m. on reports of an assault and car prowl.

Police said they found two SmartPark employees at the scene, both of whom were injured. Officers said the employees told them they were cleaning drains when they confronted two men on the eighth floor of the garage over a possible car prowl involving a car belonging to one of the workers.

The victims told police that during the confrontation, one man attacked them with a metal pipe and the other suspect had a handgun but did not fire any shots.

After the attack the workers said the suspects fled down the stairs of the garage with a backpack out of the car.

One of the victims was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the other was treated at the scene, according to police.

Investigators say they are looking for two white males in their 20s, both between 5 foot 8 inches and 5 foot 10 inches tall with slim to medium builds. They were wearing black hoodies and one suspect had a shaved head, police said in a press release.

Police are offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Smith at 503-823-0871.

The incident comes less than a week after police shot and killed a man who had a fake gun during an early-morning standoff January 25 in a SmartPark garage on Southwest Fourth and Morrison Street.
