Police search for wanted sex offender

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police are asking for the public’s help finding a wanted sex offender.
Ricky Marquis Coley has a felony parole warrant on a sex abuse conviction. Police said he removed his GPS ankle bracelet and did not report to his parole officer.
Coley, 35, is described as a black man who is 5’4’’ tall and weighs 160 pounds. Police said he has numerous tattoos.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to Coley’s arrest.
If you have information about Coley or his location, you’re asked to call 503-823-4357. You can also leave a tip online.
Gee, imagine that! A human being that doesn't want to be tracked like we do wolves roaming the Alaskan wildlife refuge?! The real question is, why don't we have ankle bracelets for people convicted of murder/attempted murder who happen to survive their prison sentences? Why are THOSE people allowed to roam free of monitoring if/when they get out of prison? Why are armed robbers allowed to roam free if/when they get out of prison? Would you rather have a 65 year old man who murdered at 18 years old and just got out, living next to you and your children?
Â
What is it with the utter OBSESSION with sex offenders? Clearly there are people who commit much more serious crimes, yet we don't treat them with the same extreme scrutiny as we do sex offenders.Â
Who would of thought that they would just remove the GPS unit. They should put the tracker in thier body and not tell them.
"Police said he removed his GPS ankle bracelet and did not report to his parole officer." Â (from the story)
Â
Gee, THERE'S a surprise...! Â Â
No mention of his preference in his victims. He is also not registered with the state of Oregon in their online sex offender registry. Portland has no record of him on their website either.
Â
Interesting that they he would not be in any registry which is required by law, yet they are looking for him.
Â
He is a level 2 offender and cut his GPS ankle brace and is now missing. Maybe he is a level 3 and an immediate threat to the public.
Â
Maybe he is going to to the honorable thing and remove himself from every being a threat to anyone again.
Â
@RalphCramden The Oregon State Police Sex Offender Registry, which is available to the public online, only lists PREDATORY sex offenders. Those with Predatory designations from the Parole Board are relatively few of the total number of sex offenders out there. Obviously the Multnomah County Parole Dept thought this guy was dangerous enough to track w/GPS, but that's completely independent of the Predatory designation from the Parole Board.
@RalphCramden "Maybe he is going to to the honorable thing and remove himself from every being a threat to anyone again."
Â
We couldn't get that lucky. He's probably out trolling for his next victim.
@RalphCramden Level 3 is the lowest in Oregon, and highest in Washington.  In OR there are only a few hundred listed publicly on any web site, though there are about 18,000 sex offenders, mostly all level 3, working everywhere except teaching grade school or high school.  College is ok.
so glad rehabilitation worked so well for this pillar of the community, if he was such a threat that he needed 24 hour monitoring by ankle bracelet why did we let him out. Lets solve the problem and put out a shoot on sight order and be done with this pile of crap.
Sounds like yet another job for that guy in washington.
Why didn't his prison & parole program WORK? Isn't he housed, trained, and working at a living wage job?
 @August100Â
Maybe we should worry more that college grads can't get living-wage jobs, and leave the dirt in the gutter.
What crime(s) did he commit to be put on the sex offender registry? The severity of this guys crimes would seem to make a difference, especially if anyone is at risk.. Gee, that information could have been listed.
I hope he is apprehended quickly!
@DeaconBugg Why do they let them out? I just will never get it.
@Pvpbw  @DeaconBugg Because he probably only had a 8 yr sentence, and after 5 years of good behavior he went on 3 yrs parole (still in custody with a PO).  No one gets life unless its premeditated murder, or life without parole.  So even if you get life, you can still apply for parole.
Even a Death Sentance can be reduced to parole. Remember the 4 officer's that where dhot in Washington? The guy responsible was sitting on death rowe for a Gov. of a state to Pardon him.
