ASHLAND, Ore. – State police seized nearly 55 pounds of heroin during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Ashland Thursday.
A trooper stopped an SUV just before 3 p.m. Thursday north of Ashland for a traffic violation, according to Sergeant Jeff Allison. During the traffic stop, the trooper and a drug detection K-9 found 15 sealed packages of heroin hidden in the vehicle, Allison said.
The heroin has an estimated street value of $1.1 million.
Police arrested 65-year-old Raul Mendoza of Hillsboro, Ore. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail on drug charges.
