HAZEL DELL, Wash. - Deputies in Hazel Dell are searching for a young suspect, possibly a teen, after a shooting at an apartment complex and an armed robbery at a nearby convenience store Friday morning.
One man was injured in the shooting. A SWAT unit responded to the scene and "surrounding residences were evacuated" according to deputies.
Deputies said the suspect, described as young adult male, 16 to 22 years old with a thin build and wearing dark clothing, is suspected in the shooting of a 48-year-old man at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of NE Minnehaha near Highway 99 just after 1 a.m.
Deputies said the injured man, the suspect and others in the apartment fled the residence. The gunshot victim was taken to a hospital. His condition has not been released.
A woman who was in the home and did not want to be identified said her boyfriend was cooking when the shooting began. She said she was asleep at the time.
"All I know is, someone came in through my back door, started chasing my boyfriend through the house, shooting at him," she said.
"I saw the gunman run after my boyfriend into the bathroom and I ran out of the house and called 9-1-1," she said. "Five minutes later, my boyfriend came to the neighbors and collapsed on the ground and the paramedics came and took him."
She said her boyfriend was shot in the back and stomach but was able to tell police the name of the shooting suspect and she also said the suspect is a teenager.
A short time later, an armed robbery was reported at a 7-Eleven in the 4500 of St. John's Boulevard and the description of the suspect was similar to that of the shooting suspect.
The 7-Eleven is less than a mile from the scene of the shooting. No one was hurt in that incident, deputies said.
Deputies and police continue to search for the suspect. Despite the shooting victim identifying the suspect, law enforcement officials have not released that name.
It appears katu is off this weekend, other stations are reporting that the police took care of him last night.
Well all, consider this. Might it be possible that it wasn't a random home invasion and that the actual victim may not the one who got shot? Trust me there is always a lot more to the story and more times than not the person entering the home is some one who has been there before and knows what or who they're they are after. And I would say that if this kids was chasing the guy through the house or apartment just to shoot him that he had an ax to grind. Not all "victims" are nice people that something bad happened to. Some are people who just finally got hit with the KARMA train  . Just sayin................. Wonder what the "victims" arrest record and history with law and violence looks like.
The sad part is this skel lives in my hood and he just might disappear some night never to be seen, or heard from again...
Yet another shooting near Crimecouver? Well I'm just shocked...
@Whobeke Far less then Portland. FAR.. FAR less....
So if he is 16 years old, the gun laws did nothing whatsoever to prevent this from happening. Maybe if we had the gunshot detection system installed nationally, this would have prevented this from happening?

That Okamoto lady should demand to know why the police, who are morally and socially responsible for upholding the Nanny State and protecting all of the little lambs across the land, let the perpetrator slip away. There should be an investigation. Â
Lovely. Â I guess I really need to move.
And I knew 7-11 coming into the neighborhood would be a bad thing. Â Something tells me this kid is a neighbor.

@Dr. Rawdog Well, let's see.  It used to be a First Independent Bank.  When they sold out, it got bought up a little while ago by a 7-11 franchise.
Â
Less than 5 blocks away you can find a Chevron (small) station and store, Handy Andy's, and Oscar's (which is the most like a small store and least like a convenience of the other two plus 7-11). Â Neighbors felt it was at saturation before 7-11 moved in (there is another 7-11 about 35 blocks north on St. Johns Blvd which served the Slurpee set just fine).
Â
Lets just say that the neighborhood didn't need 7-11 (and I'm not saying this because they tend to become the loci of trouble and crime). Â This is one of the least visited 7-11's I've seen. Â I have never seen more than two cars in the parking lot and one usually belongs to the employee. Â It'll only be successful if Handy Andy's or Oscar's fails (and I don't see that happening).
@CTWU I can tell you with absolute certainty, if 7-11 placed a store in the neighborhood, it's because there is a potential revenue stream for them. They intensely study and survey a candidate store site and immediate neighborhood prior to investing. They put their money there because, well, there's money there.
Â
I won't speculate as to whether that's a good or bad thing, I'll leave that to you.

So Police know his name. Are they going to share it with us at some point?
@Pointblank Probably not nor a picture... protected class???
@gbudavid  @Pointblank My hunch is that the PD is trying to verify the identity and/or work through family and friends to locate the perp.. based on the info the victim gave.  Hopefully, we have not degenerated as a society where we 'protect' violent shooters because -- God forbid! -- we might step on the perp's supposed 'right to privacy'.  On balance, I think the victim and public's right to protect themselves should take precedence.  At the same time, when the guy is caught will he be tried as an adult?
@ThePosterFormerlyKnownAsPhredE  @Pointblank I was pointing the finger at the media... Did you see how fast they buried the Texas Campus Shooting the other day???
@ThePosterFormerlyKnownAsPhredE  @gbudavid  @Pointblank And it could quite possibly be a juvenile so, yes, at least initially treated as a special class until they can absolutely confirm identity.
@gbudavid  Minor, maybe? They're highly protected. Do they count as a class?
 @Jumpin' Jehosophat  @gbudavidÂ
Yes, low class.
