MOLALLA, Ore. – The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents in the area of Scotts Mills to be on the lookout for a missing woman after a couple reported seeing her in the area nearly two weeks ago.

Janice Lynn Ernest, 62, was last seen by the couple Friday, March 14, sheriff deputies said. Police said Ernest suffers from bipolar disorder and is believe to be off her medication.

Sheriff deputies said they spoke to the couple, who were working on some property in the search area, Wednesday, March 26, and the couple positively identified Ernest from a photograph.

The couple told deputies they saw Ernest walking down Butte Creek Road near Scotts Mills March 14. They said the woman went out of her way to avoid them.

The couple said Ernest looked dirty, as if she had been in the woods, but otherwise was walking fine.

The sheriff’s office is asking residents in the Scotts Mills area to check their storage sheds, barns or other outbuildings in case Ernest sought shelter in them.

Ernest is about 5 feet four inches tall, weighs 125 pounds and has sandy brown hair and blue eyes.

Police said they don’t believe she has her cellphone and she may not be able to find her way home without help.

Anyone who has information about where Ernest may be is asked to call 503-655-8211 and refer to Molalla Police Case # 14-0474.
