Portland man dies in crash south of Canby

CANBY, Ore. -- A Portland man died this weekend following a crash Saturday evening south of Canby.

Layne Jason Iffert, 21, was driving his Subaru station wagon north on Highway 99E near milepost 23, when it crossed the centerline, crashing into two oncoming vehicles, according to the Oregon State Police.

The station wagon then overturned in a ditch on the west side of the highway, troopers said.

Iffert was taken by helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University, where he died the next morning.

One of the other two drivers involved in the crash, Steve Koutny, 57, of Hubbard was taken to Meridian Park Hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers are investigating what caused Iffert to cross the centerline.
