PORTLAND, Ore. – A Portland rabbit owner says someone stole two of her pet rabbits and left a note that said they’d be in better hands.

Fiona Petra said the rabbits were taken over the weekend from outside her Northeast Portland home. In their place was note signed by a group calling itself “The HALO League”, which stands for Helping Animals Live Outside, Petra said.

One of those rabbits, named “Truly”, was spotted on a street corner Monday miles away from Petra’s home. Petra said the woman who found Truly recognized her from an online news report about the theft.

“These people just interject themselves into our lives and then they take them far away and then actually Truly could have totally died and it just makes me really mad and I feel it gives animal activism a really bad name,” Petra said.

Petra says she is an animal activist and knows how to properly care for her pets, which she rescued.

Petra said another rabbit, named “Old Money”, is still missing.
