PORTLAND, Ore. - East Burn restaurant has gotten some hot reviews for its grilled cheese sandwiches.

“It was mentioned as one of the top 25 in the country by Food and Wine magazine, which was very kind of them,” says East Burn owner Mike Bender.

So when someone posted a 5-star review on Yelp last Thursday, owner Mike Bender wasn't surprised.

But the poster also included comments about getting a girl pregnant, and running to Canada for a free abortion.

Mike Bender replied, calling the post disrespect toward women, shameful, and not at all funny.

“The casual disrespect towards women that we just don't tolerate here amongst our staff or in general social settings,” says Bender. “We just took it as an opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade and since the grilled cheese was mentioned in there, we thought it would just be a great opportunity to do some good and give back to the community.”

Next month, East Burn will donate about two dollars from every cheese sandwich they sell to the Portland Women's Crisis Line.

PWCL helps women coping with domestic and sexual violence.

Now word of the fundraiser's gone viral.

Says Bender, “All of a sudden it got posted up through Facebook and it's gotten to be a little crazy so looks like we'll be selling a lot of grilled cheese.”
