Pregnant high school teacher killed in crash near Salem

SALEM, Ore. — Oregon State Police say a Salem high school teacher was killed in a three-vehicle crash near Salem Friday morning.
Emily Sue Campbell, of Dallas, died when a pickup crossed the center line on Highway 22 near the intersection of Highway 51 and collided with her car and an SUV.
The 32-year-old taught English at North Salem High School. She was pregnant and expecting her first child in April.
"She made us want to learn. She made class fun," said student Paige Burger. "In class she'd always talk about how excited she was to meet baby Isabella."
Burger said everyone was worried when first period started on Friday morning and their teacher wasn't there.
"She wasn't at class and I just remember all these people coming in trying to find out why she wasn't there. And one of the teachers texted her and she never replied."
Students, teachers, school staff and parents held a candlelight vigil for Campbell Friday night.
Many students on Saturday spoke about what Campbell meant to them.
"She taught me to become a better person and become a writer," said Bryana Rupp.
"One of my friends wasn't able to pay for a test for her college and Mrs. (Campbell) personally helped her out of her own pocket," said student Desiree Gonzalez. "She was more than a teacher. She was a friend too."
The pickup driver, 60-year-old Agapito Escutia-Chacon, and the SUV driver, 35-year-old Mark Barnhart Jr., were taken to Salem Hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.
The Salem-Keizer School District says grief counseling will be available for students and staff starting Monday.
"She was a fantastic person," said student Niki Cooper. "Really caring and loving, and really, honestly, probably cared about her students more than anything."

My deepest condolences to the family, friends and students of this young woman. I cannot imagine the grief and sorrow they are going through. It sounds like she was special to so many and will be deeply missed. I'm so sorry for your loss. May Emily and her baby rest in peace.

If this woman had been a maid at a Motel 6 and not pregnant, would the media be headlining this story? If we, as a nation, believe that the unborn are just "products of pregnancy", just a "blob of tissue", then why does it make us so sad and heartbroken to learn that she was pregnant? Because in our hearts we all know that it's a baby; that its life was cut off before it had a chance to experience the joys of living.
We know that teachers are a gift and loved by their students, but each person in their own right is loved and adored by the people in their lives. Why do we single out some and not others? Wouldn't it be nice if, as we go through our day, we could see each person we meet as the blessing and joy they are to their friends and family? If we could see them as God sees them?

@Sentry Seriush@Scotty9 Thanks for your kind words concerning my post Sentry. There are far better on this board, you just have to dig a bit. I'm very sorry for the pain and heartache you've suffered in your life. No one said this life would be easy, but it does seem that some folks get more than their fair share of grief and pain. I don't know why that happens. Sometimes, by our choices and actions we direct our lives toward pain. Other times it seems so random, like this poor teacher who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Regardless, I can say with all sincerity that having Christ in my heart and life has made a huge difference in my life. There is so much in this world that can harden our hearts and bitter our thoughts. Working in law enforcement has a tendency to jade people. I see the worst in people, but by keeping the love of Christ in my heart, He tempers my thoughts and words. I'm still cynical and negative at times, but often times He catches me before I say something I regret. I'm reading a wonderful book by Gene Getz called the Measure of A Man. I strongly recommend it for all men who wish to live as the men God intended.
I keep this Bible passage taped to my monitor to remind me before writing anything. I don't always succeed, but I keep trying:

@PD1202 @Sentry Seriush @Scotty9 I've had two divorces.  I'm a really good person, raised wonderful, productive children, have wonderfully loving friends and great compassion for those less fortunate than me.  Having two divorces shouldn't say anything to anyone else -- those are personal things with personal reasons that no one else will ever understand.  I don't judge people based on decisions they've made, because right or wrong it makes them the person they are now.  And if I like who that person is, in my eyes they've made the correct choices.

The openness and willingness to look at all points of view is what I like most about the majority of so called "Christians" these days!
EVERYTHING that happens is in God's plan - He doesn't necessarily do it, but He allows it for a reason! In this case, maybe to show us that we are NOT in control of our own lives, He is. I don't care what George Carlin or anyone else says (I didn't watch the video, btw), what matters is only what God says, and someday George and you will have to answer to Him - how will you handle that?

@eyeonchina I assume she was "good" but I dont know her.  What about the 60 yr. old driver who veered, was he "evil"?  As for the "always the good ones" well more accurate is always all of us. for it is appointed unto all to die and then the judgement.  So,what really matters and the "grief councilors" should emphasize if they were truthful is that it is very important to know where one is going after one dies and that their is only one name given to men by God to be saved and that is Jesus who died on the cross because no one is good enough to go to heaven so God sent his own Son to die in our place.

@Ramona  This kind of response is not comforting, in my opinion. You do not sound like one who is compassionate to the family of this woman, to her friends, and to her students. Jesus consoled others. Jesus wept in sorrow. This kind of response tends to chase others away from the very message and person you are seeking to share.

If the family is truly grieving then I doubt they are here on the forum reading from strangers they are with each other comforting each other. Â I am posting here to others who donot know these people but are now reminded again that physically we can die at any time and biblically nowis the time to get saved through faith it is to late afterwards. Â And if one does not believe, then I should not be offending them because they think I am nuts. If they Are offended anyway it is because depinside they know the Bible is true yet they are still in rebellion against it and God.

You must lead a sad life. We all express our opinions and beliefs on this site, we debate and we agree/disagree. Without which, there is no debate. But when a young life is cut short, we all feel the sadness and express what we are feeling. So sad you do not have something profound and meaningful to contribute, or a belief in something other than yourself to hold on to.Â
