Puppy dies in Salem house fire
SALEM, Ore. – A Salem family escaped a house fire early Saturday morning.
The fire started at a home on Fischer Road NE just after 3:30 a.m.
A family member told KATU News that her niece lived in the home and said her family’s puppy died in the fire.
The cause of the fire is unclear.
The Red Cross is helping the family find a place to stay.
So my brother set up the account and we notified KATU like they told us to. They indicated they would put it out to viewers and they have not and we have called and emailed with no reply. What the heck is up with that?

Here is the website with contact info to the local Red Cross. Please help if you can.

@bowelg From what I understand they will be setting up an account at US Bank under the Tuttles Fire and the new station is suppose to be helping them with this. I really wish I was there to help and I really hope they can get back on thier feet. If anyone wants to help they can contact the news station or me and we will figure something out.
Â
@Melanie Smith  @bowelg I will help out as much as I can too. They are truly blessed with all that people are helping them. I am another person you can contact if you want to help them out. The Red Cross has put them up in a hotel for 3 nights and might even have a place once their stay their is done. They may have lost all of their belongings in the fire, but they did not lose their love and devotion they have to each other. This family has been through hell and back this year, this was their last fall, now they are going to be picking themselves up and start over again. Any prayers will be needed to help them get through this very rough step, but they are an amazing family and will be able to get through this!  Thank you so much to all who have helped them out and not said anything negative about this story!
@Melanie Smith  @bowelg Ill help as much as i can melonie =] dont worry i got you....
I do think KATU was a little cheap and ridiculous in using this header. It should have been more about how the community could help a family in need. The news story has no relevant information..llike the contact info for the red cross for individuals to donate to this family. This was lazy and unprofessional.
@bowelg My first thought when i saw the headline was, "Oh, a puppy died...? That's sad, but it sounds like nobody else was hurt." However,if the Red Cross is having to assist them in finding shelter, it sounds like there must not be any relatives or close friends nearby. These people are alive but still need some help.
This is a coworker of mine and all the childish facebook trash talk is stupid they litterally have nothing and r sleeping in a hotel i am gettingbthings gathered and will be bringing them some stuff i have stuff for the girls for sure n possibly mommy i wasnt using.names on purpose :) but yes i would be friggin devistated, this happen to my gpa as well n red cross is amazing after she is in a new plafe they will need more then clothes ans food and lets not forget these people of everyone gives a little it helps a lot this is the time of year where we need to b thankful for what we have and give anything that we can spare i have not stopped thinking of hr or hrr family since i found out this morning its horrible and no one should have to go threw this
You tell them Melanie. They lost everything and that puppy was a member of the family. He was not a dog that they just got, the puppy is one of their other dogs babies. He was the girls dogs and they  very upset about losing him. All you see is the pictures. I have been to the house and seen all that they have lost. It could have been so much worse so everyone needs to get over the title of the story and think about how dreadful this could have been. Thank the Lord for them all getting out okay and thank you to the people who are not complaining about this. They are an amazing family and did not deserve this.
You are absolutely right Tyler. The idiots below wouldnt be feeling that way if it was them in this position.
Â
Â
@Melanie Smith Maybe the headline should read "family loses everything in fire"  That would make it a general interest story.
@Siwash @Melanie Smith why dont you just leave it alone? The news station is the one that chose the title. My family went through a very bad time and you have an issue with the headline??? Like I said what if it was you? Just stay out of it.
Â
You 3 are really hollow individuals! ya know that?? You should think of how the family feels now that they have no home and all four of their salvageable belonging fit into 2 small boxes. I stood in what once us to be a family's HOME and held the mother as she was crying because her family had NOTHING! I sat beside her husband as he kept mumbling "Everything's gone" after he was released from the hospital. If you didn't want this event to "mess up" your morning you should of freaking scrolled on past it! It's really sad to get on here and see how you people are acting over a family member of mines disaster of a morning. Sorry this news story ruined YOUR morning... If anybody is interested in helping out this family let me know and i can give you details and contact info. Thank you for those of you that do care.
@Tyler Swain i wanna help (: can i have your contact info?? (:
@Alesha Forsythe  @Tyler Swain You can also go to any US Bank and donate. They setup an account under the Tuttle Family Fire. It should be ready to receive funds tomorrow.Â
@Alesha Forsythe  @Tyler Swain Did you get information on how to help? If not email me at sb5hall@yahoo.com and I can let you know how to help.
@Tyler Swain I'm so sorry this happened to them and they lost everything, including their puppy. The very good thing in this story is that they all made it out and are safe. Things can be replaced, at least they still have each other and good friends like you. And yes, the people making flip comments are ignorant trolls.
I feel sorry for the dog, but is this really a top news story????
@Siwash So I am the sister. What if this was you??? You wouldnt be complaining then would you?
@Melanie Smith  @Siwash I am a dog lover, I have two.  If I lost either one it would be very sad.  That still does not make it a news story.  That is all I was saying.
@Mikey @Siwash Wow you tell him!
Â
@Siwash Actually, it IS a news story. Just because you didn't think it important or newsworthy, doesn't mean others feel the same way. Unless you own KATU and manage their web site, the stories here are for everyone. If you don't think it's newsworthy, move along.
Â
And the loss of ANY life, even that of a puppy, is a tragedy far and above the loss of anything else. Material possessions can be replaced.

@Siwash My thoughts exactly. Why is this a headliner?
BAM! A headline that turns a happy morning, sad.
@Lips In other words, another day on Planet Earth.....
