PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland police arrested a man who they said stabbed another man in the head Wednesday night.

Colby Aplin, 27, faces one count of assault. Police said he stabbed Larry Holm, 65, while the two were in a parked car.

It happened at Southwest 9th Avenue and Alder Street in downtown Portland. Officers found Holm suffering from multiple stab wounds to the back of his head. Police said Aplin was found inside the car splattered with blood.

Holm was taken to the hospital with traumatic injuries but he is expected to survive, police said.

Aplin was treated at the scene of the stabbing for what police called an "unknown medical condition". Detectives learned that Aplin began "acting irrationally" in the car and stabbed Holm without being provoked, police said.

Officers took Aplin to the Multnomah County Jail.
