Recovery in sluggish Oregon economy slows

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - More indications emerged in October that Oregon's sluggish economic recovery has slowed.
The state Employment Department said Wednesday that payroll employment for the month dropped by an estimated 2,400 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis. The losses were evenly divided between public and private employment.
The department said the unemployment rate for the month was 8.6 percent, statistically unchanged from the previous month, at 8.7 percent.
The department also said that job losses reported in September turned out to be only a tenth as great as initially estimated. It said revised figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed a loss of 800 rather than 7,900.
Year-over-year figures as of October show nonfarm payroll employment up by a little more than 15,000 — slightly less than 1 percent.

You can thank Governor Kitzslober, Multnomah County, City of Portland and Eugene for their attack on business and driving it out of the state.
Duh...this is just what you dodo's voted for...enjoy....
I don't know where the employment division is getting their numbers. Â We just laid off 25 people this month, 15 last month, and are required to take 15 days either unpaid or borrowed PPO (if one has it available to them) during the weeks starting Last Monday and New Year's day. Â Many of the people I work with are unable to get assistance as they are just above the poverty level (most by $1) and they won't qualify for unemployment-even temporary. Â Food banks are overwhelmed and there is a lack of assistance for these employees. Â Many do not have family to turn to as their families are in the same situations.
And thanks to Obama's reelection, the stock market has taken a huge nose dive. Down nearly ..700.. points already. Thanks democrats. This is now your recession.
@last boyscout That's pretty lame. Blaming one person for the recession, a downturn in the stock market, or anything else is simply disingenuous. I'm sure in your own mind Congress has nothing to do with anything nor does the world economic problems or European woes. I guess during the Clinton years, when this country had 8 years of the greatest economic expansion in history and ended with a budget surplus, it was all due to Clinton himself? Ignorance is truly bliss, I guess.
@last boyscout Nose dive due to the fear of the "fiscal cliff". Granted Obama factors into that, but Obama doesn't get sole credit for the drop just as he doesn't get credit for the market running up earlier this year.
@JTesla Let's be honest, I'm only giving Obama the [exact] amount of credit and liability that the main stream media would be dumping on Romney had he won the election.
@last boyscout , Very true. I bet unemployment is going to skyrocket as more jobs are moved overseas because it now makes even more buisness sense to do so.
You should all watch the SUPERB documentary, "Surviving Progress."
Â
Do that, and you'll stop blaming silly presidents for anything.Â
Blaming the president isnt exactly the way to go. Local bills and laws make it harder and harder for people to stay in Portland or Oregon in general. Mult County is a prime example of how to ruin the job market and economy.
@Newsin Your right it is not the presidents fault. It is the liberal Democrats that seem to keep getting relected. But then again, when time and time again your mom says dont touch the burner on the stove, it is hot and you repeatedly do and get burned, that is on you. SO keep electing these chuckleheads and you will keep getting burned.
I don't know why people are blaming Obama or the federal government for this - unemployment is getting better as a whole nationwide. Â It's the corrupt, local idiots that are to blame.
Do any of you have a memory at all ? Let me remind you, it was Bush who caused the housing crisis, it was the republicans who helped ship millions of jobs to China, it was the Bush administration that brought this country to the brink of collapse and to suggest we go back to those ideas is ignorant, this is why Obama won..
Romney owned a company that specialized in shipping the American job to Mexico and China, do you really think he was going to save the job marked in America ? Get a grip folks.. !!!
@dougrpdx You are kidding right? I would wonder if there was anyone around this stupid but then a little over 50% of the country did vote the joker in again.
Reminder....democrats set up the housing bubble.
W - tax cuts good, spending baaddd. Yes, he over spent.
He didnt ship jobs overseas, stupid unions out pricing their labor and unfair trade practices are what caused that. Companies in the US are free to go where they want.
And your messiah had 4 years to do one thing right, and he failed. He made everything worse.
Enjoy the next 4 years. They will make the last 8 fell like paradise.
Â
@Jack_Bauer @dougrpdx Just to clarify, you are both off the mark. Democrats AND Republicans AND Independents AND just about everyone else caused the housing bubble. The United States reached a negative savings rate among the population, coupled with people using their homes as personal ATM machines, with others tearing down good homes to build McMansions and POOF there is where to place the blame. While we are placing blame, sprinkle some on lenders and appraisers who made a ton of money off making loans to people who should have known for themselves that they couldnât afford the grossly overvalued houses. Yes, the blame goes on the people, even Obama recognized that fact.
@Jack_Bauer Agreed in terms of the second part, and it is sickening that it is still happening. Too many people pointing fingers at Wall Street, not enough realizing that maybe they just can't afford the big house that they only want to buy to impress people that they really don't care about.
@JTesla  @Jack_Bauer  @dougrpdx I will meet you half way Jtesla, 'Progressives' in both parties are responsible.
And its happening again. Banks are still lending to people who cant afford the loans.
Â
Romney's fault!
Don't worry at least our Medical Insurance will almost be free with Obamacare ours is going up only 35 % in January.....
Barrak said the enemployment rate was low...what happened to that ?
"Recovery!" That's a good one!
Re-flating the 2008 economic disaster with massive new debt was NEVER a recovery.
Note to politicians/banksters/pundits: You can't solve a debt problem with MORE DEBT!!
I know things are getting worse. After a while of being unemployed I got a part-time job last month (part-time by choice since I'm still in school). Two of the four employees at my company are currently laid off with sporadic call backs.Â
"Oregon economy slows"....... That's what happens when you have the representation this state has.......!
@Rob C 503 Kitzhaber needs more money to fund his OHP so folks can get a free sex-change and complete medical, optical, dental and Rx's at taxpayer expense. He was a worthless ER doctor and an even more worthless governor back when, as well as now, that has no problem taxing more and spending more when there is no more to give...
@Rob C 503 Wait, we have representation? I thought we just had a bunch of people that met in Salem who decided how to spend a bunch of money and punt any other decision to the voters.
No worries summer of recovery four is just around the corner.
@Obongo Geddon I thought it was an early Christmas for the thousands & thousands that will be laid off under our Dear Leader that is hell-bent on realizing a socialist regime that has failed throughout history. What do we know, we are just pawns in this game...
@Obongo Geddon REALLY then why are two Company's AS IN Fashion tech Is closing at end of the month and  were losing 100 jobs and SEALY MATTRESS  closing here too now with 120 losing there jobs.
Think of business closures and layoffs as an opportunity to compete with your skill set in the global economy. This is what you will be told during the exit interview. Then hang on with unemployment until the summer of recovery four kicks in. Just remember and rejoice in what Joe Biden said "Jobs is a three letter word". All is well as those running our nation are really sharp and on top of the situation.
@Obongo Geddon I have a feeling Barry is headed for impeachment.
Hope it happens before he can 'fix' anything else.
I see more and more homeless people everyday, more people with "gimme" signs and people driving old cars with all thier stuff piled in the back .The price of food is through the roof, electricity is getting bad too... Things will only get worse as our bought and paid for "leaders" continue to take bribes and sell us all down the river... remember 2/3 of all the jobs created under obama went to foriegners.
@JouThePlumber You might be happy to know that Texas has 104,874 signatures to Recede from the union. do you think that is a pretty strong message to our leaders. Oh and that is just for Texas.
:South Dakota           5,524
State of Arkansas   20,681
Alaska                      6,903
Â
and that in its self totals to 137,982 people that are irate at the government.
@lee986321  @JouThePlumber Does not one thing, they can't recede from the union.. You can get that many fools to sign anything..
 @lee986321 137,982 traitors.
@JTesla Yes, the system can survive a bad leader, for awhile. But that scenario only works when those who are paying taxes greatly outnumber those who do not. Right now, the unemployed population continues to grow until it tips the scales, and they will out number the employed. Can't survive long when that happens.
@JTesla  @Jack_Bauer The petitions are only symbolic.
They pop up after every election. But the significance is that they are becoming more popular.
And if Barry proceeds like he did in his first term, then the Republic will not survive. We will be Greece x 1000.
Â
@Jack_Bauer The traitors are the ones who have stopped believing in the system. The system can go quite a while with bad leaders, but it will not last long if people stop believing in it.
@JTesla  @lee986321 The traitors are the ones who are destroying America, and the ones who voted for the destroyers.
@theprodigal To the British it was treason, but those that are victorious get to define themselves as they see fit. One manâs patriot is another manâs traitor. Therefore, until this nation falls Iâll continue to call those that take an active course of secession traitors.
@JTesla @boned Need I remind you, JTesla, how America got its start? Let me refresh your memory. Thirteen colonies had a "severe difference of opinion" with their government. They then declared themselves indepedent of their government - essentially seceding from the British Empire. Not that I am supporting secession. I don't want to secede from the Union - I just want my country back!
@boned You've defined it quite nicely. People that would undermine our government and spit on the graves of those who died defending the Constitution are signing petitions to dissolve the union. There have been many in the past who could justify treason in their own minds, but it was still treason. Secession = treason.
@JTesla And your definition of a 'traitor' would be?? Why not patriots and realists? Where is the crime in all this, Sir??
Â
Traitor -Â Someone who betrays his country by committing treason.
Â
Treason -Â A crime that undermines the offender's government.
Â
@JouThePlumber oh and that is from 4 states wanting to secede.
@lee986321Â Â That number is now up to 7.
Â
"The petitions for secession from the U.S. filed by Texas, Louisiana, and five other states have collected more than 25,000 signatures each".

HEY EVRYONE! WERE IN A depression
@lee986321 Just wait over where you live when the gubmint gets done with the deltas and the ARMY Corps of Engineers no longer dredge...
I guess people wanted Obama again.Things are not going to get any better when his Obama Care kicks in.Â
@Christian perspectiveRegardless, how is that a "Christian perspective"???
@felines99 Just because a 'Christian' is a realist you feel it necessary to make the comment? Well, we all know who you voted for as thousands continue to be laid-off all over the country and the economy continues to tank, again...
@boned  @felines99 What a stupid thing to say. I said "regardless", meaning it doesn't matter whether he is right or wrong on the issue -- I was simply asking CP what made his comment a "Christian" comment. You really need to improve your reading comprehension!!!
@lee986321 I am just a stupid White-boy that has the 'luxury' of being retired and have the time to read everything from here to Canada and the EU and you are 100% correct in your summation. Folks around me do not even go out at night for fear - what a great way to live and it is getting worse. Lastly, this is exactly where Omama wants us - totally dependent on the gubmint to save us.
@boned  @felines99 I personally think were in a Depression. were just painting the words recession to make it sound prettier. Kind of like painting up a junker car with nice pretty paint and saying it new.. its still broken, it just looks pretty lol
