NEAR SAUVIE ISLAND – Rescue crews found a man's body late Friday night after he was kayaking off Sauvie Island.

Dim Dy was in a kayak with a friend when it it overturned. The friend made it to shore.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the two men were apparently drinking. The man who made it ashore found someone who had a cellphone and called 911.

Dy was 41 years old. Both men were from Portland.

From Chopper 2, an overturned kayak could be seen in the north end of the Multnomah Channel in McNary Lake Friday afternoon. A rescue crew reached it, turned the empty kayak right side up, and towed it back to shore.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter did an extensive search of the lake from the sky.

The search was led by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and assisted by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
