Rescuers locate lost skier on Mt. Hood

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. – A 22-year-old skier from Portland was found safe after he got lost on Mt. Hood Friday night.
Conor Roland-Chicvara called his mother from the mountain with his cell phone to tell her he was lost at around 8 p.m., Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies said. His mother called the Timberline Ski Patrol, who then called the sheriff’s office.
Roland-Chicvara had a GPS device with him, deputies said. Rescuers located his position in Zig Zag Canyon.
Ski patrol members found him at around 1:30 a.m.
He was not hurt.
he cried himself to sleep, what a pussy
I skied Timberline once. Â I started getting cold and wanted to go back up to the lodge, but I had a hard time reading the signs. Â The signs tell you which way to get to different runs, but not where you need to go to get back to the lodge. Â I was starting to get nervous. Â I can totally see someone getting lost up there. Â I have no desire to go back. Â Ski Bowl is much funner and safer.
something positive in the news
Zigzag Canyon is where people end up when they are at high elevation and try to get back to Timberline Lodge by following the "fall line"--the direction of travel directly down hill.
Yay for the GPS, working cell phone, a mom on the other end, a ski patrol, and sheriff's department that did a great job finding the skier. Ah! So cool that it all worked out.
