Residents escape house fire in Camas
CAMAS, Wash. – Two people escaped a house fire Saturday in a rural area north of Camas, firefighters said.
The fire started at a house located at 3526 NE 222nd Avenue at around 4:30 p.m., according to East County Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Koehler. Two elderly residents who lived in the home said they heard a loud noise in the basement and saw smoke filling the home seconds later. Both were able to escape safely.
When fire crews arrived, they had trouble entering the basement to fight the fire due to a large amount of storage, Koehler said. 25 firefighters fought the blaze from the outside of the home. Crews said they could not safely work close to the home because of loose ammunition and propane tanks nearby.
The home was a total loss, Koehler said. The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
