Deputies: Road rage leads to chase, arrest on Interstate 5

SALEM, Ore. – Marion County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Milwaukie, Ore. man who they said lost his temper and chased another car on Interstate 5 at more than 120 mph.
A deputy was driving north on Interstate 5 Saturday afternoon when a blue Honda passed him, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Don Thomson. The deputy began to follow the Honda when a gray Infiniti that was chasing the Honda passed him at more than 100 mph.
The Honda and Infiniti changed lanes several times, Thomson said. The driver of the Infiniti drove onto the shoulder of the center divider at 123 mph. The driver lost control when he returned to the road and nearly collided with other cars that were driving the speed limit.
The deputy stopped the Infiniti and arrested the driver, 21-year-old Caleb Spain.
Spain told the deputy he lost his temper when the Honda passed his car.
Spain was taken to the Marion County Jail and his car was impounded. He faces one count of reckless driving.
After a few minor incidents I had to stop listening to heavy metal on my commute....I was getting way too worked up to sit in traffic.
Next time Hothead, that Honda driver might be packing and will take care of you for the rest of your shorta$$Â life.
Oh yeah, shoot someone over their driving, thats exactly what we need. Geeze.
How dare that crappy Honda should have the nerve to pass me in my Infinity! My car is clearly superior and all others shall remain behind me.Â
Exactly the mentality of people these days!Â
 @MrAchilles Yup sure is. But I find it's usually people driving the Prius with that I'm better than you mentality.
Only one arrest?? There were TWO cars involved, no? What about the IDIOT that was driving the Honda? Did they even get stopped?
 @bobcatboy1984 One cop, one arrest. By definition, the driver who lost control was driving more recklessly than the one that didn't, and much easier to catch. Not that the escaped driver did not deserve to be caught! After stopping to arrest one driver, the other at 100+ is too far down the road unless there is another cop to continue the pursuit. Don't assume one cop is superhuman and can force someone driving 100+ to stop while he is stopping someone else.
In this day and age, a reckless driving conviction could be a career killer.  So much for your security clearance and driving privileges.
Â
Yes, its true we're all young and dumb at one time. Some of us had the fortune of not getting caught or had enough fear of getting caught to reel it in. Â
We need to have a stupid law. Once they are convicted they can tell folks they have been convicted by a jury of being stupid.
@RalphCramden But Ralph, EVERYONE could be convicted under such a law, because like it or not, we are ALL guilty of being stupid on occasion. Maybe a chronic stupidity law, or a blatant stupidity law!
 @Mikey Â
Â
There's a difference. We all do stupid things on occasion but being convicted of being stupid, that is another matter.
Anger Management classes for you, dummy!
Starbucks needs to come up with Prozac Coffee.  Maybe that'll slow down these stupid road rage incidents. . .
 @Justanother1 Nah. People can just drive over the Columbia River to WA and get stoned to mellow out first  before a long drive if they are the angry-impulse-"Oh#* Yeah!!!?"- grudge-bearers like this guy.Â
Not really a big deal for 21 years old. Just give him the ticket and move on. We were all young and dumb once.
@Shawn Newell I was young and dumb and did stupid things when I was a kid but I never endangered the lives of people by driving recklessly and at high speed just because a car passed me on the freeway. Good grief.Â
 @Shawn Newell speak for yourself
@whirledworld Are you saying you never left that phase? ;-)
@whirledworld @Mikey It's clear that you're still stupid enough to be arrogant. Safe to assume you're an idiot.
 @Mikey  @whirledworld I was young once, but not dumb. You sound like you might be in the second half of that "phase" as a permanent condition.
I think he needs to trade his Infinity in for a Golf Cart....
Take his license for at least 25 years.
Thanks Caleb for endangering everybody else's lives and well being because you can't control yourself. I have NO tolerance for this kind of reckless behavior.
 @Rob C 503 Neither will his car insurance company, nor the judge...
@boned ......hope you're right.
What about the guy in the Honda??? He's the one that should have his license revoked, I think!! Course ya might have to catch him, first!
Â
BTW, I see this type of thing almost everytime I drive on I-5 or I-205.
 @boned  @Rob C 503 Hopefully they yank his license for a very long time.
 @Jamie For Infinity!
@RandyH Or loses it, too! ;-)
 @PDXtoOMA  @Jamie  @boned  @Rob C 503 Thats correct, even if he looses his license, he can still drive.  Even if he looses his insurance he can still drive.  Nothing changes.
 @Jamie  @boned  @Rob C 503 He'll get a slap on the wrist and be back on the road legally tomorrow.
Another wiener.. err, whiner, *cough* um.. winner!
I was wondering why the deputy was taking photos with his cell phone, while chasing someone at 67 mph, then I saw the deputy involved was Ryan Postelwait.  This guy is constantly trying to get on the news, and does anything he can to do it.  He needs to put his cell phone down and just do his job.
 @D R It runs in his family...
Insult to injury: Honda WINS! ;p
What a fricken dumb arse! Â Oh, poor baby...a Honda passed your precious little Infiniti. Â Get over it moron.
 @PD1202 It amazes me how many 'macho' drivers get upset when I pass them in my little turbo diesel VW Beetle and of course they have to waste a gallon of petrol to pass me so they feel better about themselves. My little VW is far from stock and still gets 43 mpg on the highway so I just blow them a kiss and laugh...
@boned I have always said, "Its not what you drive, its HOW you drive"Â
Â
Same thing as an old man or woman driving a brand new Porche 20 miles under the speed limit. Talk about causing road rage.Â
