TROUTDALE, Ore. - An SUV plunged down a ravine late Thursday night and rescuers had to bring in a special team for a rope rescue.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. In the 29200 block of Southeast Kerslake Road in Troutdale.
A 2001 Ford Excursion left the road and rolled about 75 feet down an embankment. The vehicle landed on its wheels and a male passenger called 9-1-1 for help. Rescuers instructed the man to honk the horn so they could locate the vehicle.
A Heavy Rescue rope team was able to get both the driver and passenger out of the SUV and back up to the roadway. The two were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The driver, 42-year-old Denise Sumpter of Gresham, was cited and released at the hospital for DUII and fourth-degree assault.
