Roseburg police tangle with suspect who fights off Taser

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg man was jailed on multiple charges Sunday night, after fighting with police, even after they used a Taser to subdue him.

Police say that they were called to a residence in the 1700 block of Douglas Ave. just before 9:30 p.m., to a report of a man rummaging around on a woman's back porch.

When the first officer arrived on scene, he says he watched the suspect, later identified as Robbin Keith Freamon, 53, walk around the house and peering into windows.

Police say Freamon then walked directly at the officer, who then identified himself and began to give the man verbal commands.

Officers say that's when Freamon threw a large lawn ornament at the officer and headed back towards the house.

The officer attempted to detain Freamon, but he fought with him.

The officer used his Taser on Freamon, but he was able to rip the wires off in between cycles.

Other officers arrived and Freamon was eventually taken into custody, but not before striking the first officer in the face.

Freamon was taken to Mercy Medical Center and was found to have a fractured rib, but was medically released and lodged in the Douglas County Jail.

Freamon was charged by police with the following:

  • Criminal Trespass II
  • Harassment
  • Obstructing Governmental Administration
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Theft III
  • Criminal Mischief II
  • Reckless Endangering
  • Escape II

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Web site, Freamon is being held without bail.
