PORTLAND, Ore.  – Another week, another road closure.

And, probably, more tickets.

Southeast 8th, SE 11th and SE 12 Avenues south of Division were closed Monday morning for work on the TriMet MAX’s Portland-Milwaukie line. The roads are schedule to be shut down around the clock for three weeks.

SE 11th and SE 12th are major north-south corridors in SE Portland, averaging about 21,000 car trips a day.

Police will be cracking down on speeders in the surrounding neighborhoods.

"Police are really concerned that people will come to these closures, get frustrated and drive too fast through the neighborhood streets," said Portland City Commissioner Steve Novick, who oversees the Portland Bureau of Transportation.

When SE Cesar Chavez was shut down recently for sewer construction, police issued more than 80 tickets in a similar crackdown.
