Vancouver standoff ends after police try to serve warrant
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Police called out the SWAT team Friday evening to try to serve a search warrant on a man who they believed was holed up at an apartment at Southeast 160th Avenue and Mill Plain Boulevard, according to Vancouver police.
Police said he was wanted for felony assault. SWAT responded at about 5 p.m. The standoff ended a little over an hour later. But police would not say how it ended or who was taken into custody.
Blue? were they there this morning? The first I saw them gathering was after dark tonight 11/30/12 , and they didn't close the gate or put the police car across the other entrance till about then too. One kind of odd thing they did was to throw covers over the Fishers Mill entrance sign and another cover over the map of the buildings at the second entrance from mill plain. Wonder why they did that?
 @RenikayÂ
Yes they were there about  1:45 am.. I was staying with my mom last night and her dog needed to go outside, when I let him out he braked and looked up and there were police (swat) in helmets and gear.. At about 2:30 am they went in I heard them yelling that they were VPD and etc. Then there was no noise and under cover cops came in.. Then at about 3am they left.. Yes they had been cops there everyday.. I am my mom caregiver so when I showed up wedesday there was a cop there at 2pm watching that apartment, when I left my mom said at 6pm he was still sitting there.. Then on Thurday there was 7 cop cars undercover and everything up there.. They left my mom said they looked mad.. Then this early this morning and then again this afternoon.. My mom said there is still cops in the stairway as of 11:30pm tonight.. She is nervous to be at the apartments tonight..Â
@Renikay The maintenance told me that this was actually the third raid on that apartment in the last week.
So my disbaled mother lives less than 30ft from this whole.. Swat team was also there last night scared me half to dealth when I went to let my mom's puppy out looked up and there were armed men with helmets.. They went in at 2am after an hour she was not there.. There is way more to the story.. I have to this girl many times. She had a 1 yr and 2 yr old boys.. I feel worse for them.. I do know it was a hostage thing, and that there was a man that was wanted and from what I heard from a neighbor was that he was holding the kids hostage possbile that the murdered someone! My mom was at the smoke shak when swat showed up and was not allowed back in her apartment, and had to come to my work and sit and wait.. She is just finally been able to go in her apartment, and there is no more swat, but there is a cop keeping guard of the stairwell where this girl lived.. I know a neighbor that was sitting at the playground watching this unfold! I pray that those babies are alright.
IÂ guess the standoff was connected to a shooting that occurred on Wednesday when a man was kidnapped, robbed and shot ..Â
@blueyedgrl Did they take the woman too? Because I think she was involved. Before I read the story about the man that was shot and walked all that way for help I heard a be on the lookout call on the police scanner giving the details of the car with 2 occupants, a hispanic man and woman, last seen heading south from Oregon City and wanted for attempted murder, robbery and kidnapping. Wonder how they tracked them back to Vancouver? I assumed they were heading for Calif.
@blueyedgrl Wow, thank you for sharing and filling in some of the missing info. A group of my neighbors and I were watching the back sliding door most of the time and saw quite a bit and the pieces just weren't adding up.I'm glad that they let your mother back in finally, I'm just glad it ended somewhat peacefully and that no one was harmed.
maybe the man already got out? there were a lot of cars leaving before they locked down the one gate?
Â
@Renikay I have no idea, although over the megaphone they were calling the woman's name and saying that she was under arrest and to call 911 or pick up the receiver the threw up to her balcony.
We had a clear view of the whole thing. (Hiding in bushes with a clear view of the back sliding door) We saw almost the whole thing and this story is somewhat misleading in the fact that it was a woman within the apt and that she was holding onto a very young child, even when responding to the police.
Double the "felony assault" charge since they had to bring in the SWAT team.Â
They have our apartment complex totally shut down, if you leave you can't get back in, which is rough for those of us that because of a total non smoking on the property, desire to go across the street in a car because it's raining to smoke! lol
Thanks for a news service on the job, KATU - so we can find out what is affecting us in our little corner of the world!
Felony assault requires a swat team to respond? Isn't that a little over kill, or just a glimpse of our future for all dealings with the police.
@Jamie Nawww, he's not a Vancouver police detective, so he gets the "Real World" treatment.
Soon there will be a whole string of felony charges for this person (term used loosely!) to chew on. Either that or a few hunks of hot lead, also to chew on.
Come on, punk -- are ya feelin' lucky?! Well, are ya?
