SWAT team called to Gladstone home, man found dead of suicide

GLADSTONE, Ore. – The SWAT team was called to a home Monday after police said they heard gunshots fired from inside. They later entered the home and found a man who had shot himself dead, police said.

The home was on Southeast Springhill Drive and Webster, according to Milwaukie police.

Gladstone police were called to the home on a welfare check at about 9 a.m. After they heard the gunshots, they fell back and called in the SWAT team.

During the SWAT situation businesses were told to shelter in place.

Also, Kraxberger Middle School was put into lockdown. There were some classes being held there because of summer school. Parents could pick up their children at Oatfield Road and Ridgegate.

Police said the children were not in danger.

For parents of children who are at the nearby YMCA, police said they could park at Webster and Charolaise and then walk to the YMCA to pick up their children.

Police closed Webster Road in both directions near the residence but the road has since been reopened.

The name of the man who died will not be released until his family has been notified, police said.
