Same-sex couples line up in Vancouver for marriage licenses

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Same-sex couples stayed in line outdoors overnight in Vancouver at the Clark County Auditor's Office, waiting for the doors to open on a new era in Washington as marriage became legal on Thursday.
The first couple to get their license could have been accused of cutting in line, but no one was going to hold it against them, since one half of the couple was marriage license manager Paul Harris, who works at the office.
About a dozen people braved the cool night air to be at the front of the line, but by 8 a.m. when the doors opened, about 50 people in total had arrived.
"It feels wonderful," Harris said after completing the paperwork with his partner of 39 years, James Griener. "There is a sense of validation and acceptance by society, I feel."
Also in line was Roxanne WhiteLight and her partner Ruth Langstraat. WhiteLight said Langstraat has been undergoing treatment for cancer. "Today is our 19th anniversary, so for sure we have been waiting that long and it’s such a sweet feeling," Whitelight said.
"Yesterday I was in chemotherapy. Today I have a marriage license," Langstraat said. "It’s been a special week."
"I’m so grateful to the state of Washington, especially our governor," WhiteLight said. "She had to do some real moral soul searching."
Griener said he had only one regret.
"Both of our families have been accepting of us," he said. "I only regret that my mother can’t be here today to see us married."
Awwww.... weddings are always so sweet...how wonderful to see so many committed  people in love with one another  and wanting to tie the knot. Best wishes to all of them, and happy life together.
 @whirledworld Well said.
I read somewhere that only heterosexual sex can produce homosexuals, so to rid of gays, we should ban heterosexual sex. Â Yeah.
Fox 12 has this shown as being a low turn out! Â Can you say FAIL to the gays? LOL
@DisBlogger That's because it is A Fox News channel. Not really a news group, but a right wing bubble. I bet your were shocked that a majority of the country Voted for the President too.
@DisBlogger My future husband and I have been together for 16 years and we live in "Vantucky". We decided to wait on getting our licenses simply because we don't want to be part of the media circus. Nevermind the fact that we both have jobs and waiting in line for hours to get a piece of paper we can get any other time really isn't a high priority to us. I'm sure we aren't the only ones.
@DisBlogger Some are likely waiting to get their licenses closer to the date they've chosen for their wedding. Not everyone is going to run and get one because they're available. Licenses are typically only good for so long, which means if you're not planning to get married until later next year, you'd need to wait to get your license. That's especially true if you're looking at a big ceremony, reception, etc. since there is usually several months' wait to get into many of the typical locations used for those events.
@Jenni S. @DisBlogger adulterous shackup is just that. a piece of paper doesnt make it legit or legal by color of law, this sham is Unenforcable .
@DisBlogger I can't imagine that a lot of gays call Vantucky home.
@UtterReality  @DisBlogger I was wondering about that as well.
Jesus the savior told you to love your enemies do good to those who abuse and perscute you for my sake your reward in the heavens will be great. He also said that The same measure you use to judge others will be the same measure upon which you shall be judged. In keeping with what was spoken I wish all who read a Merry Christmas! Now go hug somone! Let brotherly and sisterly Love fill your heart! It is easy to hate. It is much more difficult to Love and forgive!Â
@MGP christmass is catholic cult function. He was not born that day either. Nor is yuletide biblical, its divination, when forcasting events base upon Tide movement,  "yuletide" .mass is a pure catholic fuction BTW, not found in any Hebraic or Judeanistic activity. It is from Constantine, a man well historically known to persecute original Christians Jews, whon could not Finish the job, then invited them Into his cathedrals to have their "God" with his babalonian man made "god",  thus MFG a heretical system evolving into papal cultic philosophies. Try owning truth on the matter because there is nothing merry about celebrating death of the Savior which papal system centers on it thus "massing" over it. Iyts time to break away from their heretical falsehood grip on your minds.
@Zechariah let me rephrase to somthing more politically correct for you I wish you peace on earth good will toward men. Please forgive me for saying but you fail to tell me anything I don't already know.I don't live in the Time of Constantine nor did I take part in the persecution of original Christian Jews. Although through their suffering the Lord is magnified and his name made great amongst the nations.Through his death and his wounds and the  sheding of his sacrificial blood for myself and other common sinners I can rejoice in my salvation and be thankful for being given this awesome rebirth and the opportunity to live in a place of love and peace and to have hope for what is beyond the hatred men carry in thier hearts for each other on this plane of exsistence. In my modern world I hold to this truth daily and am thankful that there might be a few days out of the year where men might be reminded to soften an otherwise stoney heart for their fellow man and think more of what is to come instead of what is here now. Inspite of the commmercialization of the Holiday and it's impact in the retail world I still believe it has it's merits in the modern world for this reason. I am not Catholic or am afiliated with any church or could I find it in my heart to condemn for the fear that I would be condemned. I judge not the tools in my Fathers shed or how he might use them to bring about peace. Perhaps Christians and Jews alike should not watch or participate in the Oylimpic games being the torch is still lit on the Mount of Zues the pagan false God in much the same way it was when Zues was honored in the early Olyimpic games. Should I not Love someone because they blindly enjoy the Olyimpic games not caring of it's original source. My belief is without the death of the Savior there is no life As I have read in scripture  The wages for sin is death and there is no forgivness for sin without the shedding of blood I rejoice not In my saviors suffering and death but know as he did that it must come to pass if he was to want his fathers will not his own and the terrible cup did not pass from him. Zechariah before you condemn again the power of the Holy Spirit over mens hearts and those who have a catholc or a non catholic wish to embrace this reminder of peace on earth good will toward men I invite you and hope you will take the time to read this excerpt from wikpedia concerning a Christmas truce in 1914 during world war 1 between bitter enemies and how it stopped the shedding of blood and reminded men of what could be instead of what was.Blessings and Love and God's grace to you.        " From Wikpedia"
Though there was no official truce, roughly 100,000 British and German troops were involved in unofficial cessations of fighting along the length of the Western Front.[8] The first truce started on Christmas Eve, 24 December 1914, when German troops began decorating the area around their trenches in the region of Ypres, Belgium.[9]
The Germans began by placing candles on their trenches and on Christmas trees, then continued the celebration by singing Christmas carols. The British responded by singing carols of their own. The two sides continued by shouting Christmas greetings to each other. Soon thereafter, there were excursions across No Man's Land, where small gifts were exchanged, such as food, tobacco and alcohol, and souvenirs such as buttons and hats. The artillery in the region fell silent. The truce also allowed a breathing spell where recently killed soldiers could be brought back behind their lines by burial parties. Joint services were held. The fraternisation carried risks; some soldiers were shot by opposing forces. In many sectors, the truce lasted through Christmas night, but it continued until New Year's Day in others.[7]
Bruce Bairnsfather, who served throughout the war, wrote: "I wouldn't have missed that unique and weird Christmas Day for anything. ... I spotted a German officer, some sort of lieutenant I should think, and being a bit of a collector, I intimated to him that I had taken a fancy to some of his buttons. ... I brought out my wire clippers and, with a few deft snips, removed a couple of his buttons and put them in my pocket. I then gave him two of mine in exchange. ... The last I saw was one of my machine gunners, who was a bit of an amateur hairdresser in civil life, cutting the unnaturally long hair of a docile Boche, who was patiently kneeling on the ground whilst the automatic clippers crept up the back of his neck."[10]
General Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien, commander of the British II Corps, was irate when he heard what was happening, and issued strict orders forbidding friendly communication with the opposing German troops.[8]
Adolf Hitler, then a young corporal of the 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry, was an opponent of the truce
@MGP  @Zechariah "...or could I find it in my heart to condemn for the fear that I would be condemned...."
More that you might not find it in your heart to condemn because your heart would be too full of tender altruistic love and compassion flowing from it...rather than fear  (of being condemned) clenching it. If you are a believer of following Jesus's life then love is the message he left for you. Just love...perfected.Â
@Zechariah " Nor is yuletide biblical, its divination, when forcasting events base upon Tide movement, "yuletide""
Â
No. Tide as in time.
Â
"Try owning truth"
Â
Maybe you should take your own advice, because that "yuletide" thing is comically false. You know, false the opposite of true?
@Zechariah  @MGP Yule is Pagan. So is Santa Claus. So is the Virgin Birth, and Jesus was a Mushroom.
 @MGPÂ
Corinthians 6:9
Levitieus  18:22
Deuteronomy  22:5
Romans  1:26-27
Â
Being you brought up the Christian aspect I'd like to make it clear. Christians don't need to judge because God made it clear in his word his opinion. So any judgment to be made will be made by God based on his opinion of homosexual behavior in the Bible.Â
@ORthinker @MGP
I can do that too!!!
1 Timothy 2:11-14 women do not have authority over men
1 Corinthians 14:34 women should be silent in church
1 Corinthians 11:5-6 women should cover their hair to pray
Deuteronomy 22:5 I find it funny you use this one because its about clothes and most western women wear pants and thats mens clothing so most women in the United States are an abomination to the lord, not just lesbians.
1 Timothy 2:9 women shouldn't wear gold or pearls etc.
Exodus 21:7-11 a man can sell his daughter into slavery
Exodus 21:20-21 Hitting a slave is ok as long as they live for a day or two
Ephesians 6:5 slaves should obey their masters
1 Timothy 6:1-2 another one about slaves obeying their master
Luke 12:47-48 if a slave does wrong and knows its wrong gets punished severly if they don't know its wrong only a small punishment
Leviticus 25:44-46 why not give your slaves to your kids
Genisis 17:13 circumcize your slaves
Â
Being able to read a bible just like you I'd also like to make it clear, it looks like everyone but the amish are going to be judged (looks to be negativly) by God. So Christian's please get off your high horses unless you live by all of these rules too.
@Wodemingzishishenme  @ORthinker  @MGP I think you forgot the part about smiting your neighbors if they work on the Sabbath and making burnt offerings with some dead animals in your backyard to keep God from kicking your as* because he likes you to pay him off like that... just like the Mafia likes offerings (usually cash though)
@ORthinker  @MGP My God doesn't believe in that man-written Bible Nonsense!
@DisBlogger  @August100  @ORthinker  @MGP The rapture is not supported in the bible. It is a theory of a scotch protestant minister. It is just like the Mayan end of the world stories. A fairy tale.
@ORthinker I do hope you were kidding about believing in Hell. LOL...What a stupid idea that one is. The term of hell, in the bible, refers to an area in the city which was used to destroy garbage, there were flames burning 24/7 with rats running around looking for food. If is not a place you send people that sinned, it was a place everyone went to for garbage dumping.....plus on the flip side of that thought, if you believe in hell, you must  believe there is a gate to get into haven, ask yourself, what loving God that you know, would trap a loving soul behind a gate to entrap them.....Come man, grow a set and start thinking on your own verses relaying on everything you were thought in Sunday school.
 @DisBlogger  @August100  @ORthinker  @MGPÂ
"Â I feel sad for you because of what awaits you after the Rapture."
Â
What, your car?
@ORthinker  @August100  @MGP Warm in the bosom of the God who loves and never abandons his children no matter what?
@DisBlogger  @August100  @ORthinker  @MGP the Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Wiccans, Catholics, Methodists, Unitarian, Buddhists, Sikhs, and many others feel sad for you because of what awaits you...
@DisBlogger  @August100  @ORthinker  @MGP Did you ever notice how the Book of Genesis contradicts itself in the first to chapters re: which came first, man or animals? Did you ever notice that the genealogies of Jesus don't contain many of the same names, and one list is 22 names longer than the other? Did you ever wonder why Lucifer, a Latin name, appears in a in the King James Bible when in fact the book of Isaiah was supposedly written centuries before the Romans ever entered Judea? Just checking!
@August100  @ORthinker  @MGP I feel sad for you because of what awaits you after the Rapture.
 @August100  @ORthinker  @MGPÂ
Â
Good news for you.
It's always warm where you and your god will be. Really warm!

@DisBlogger  @MGP Actually, Jesus never once commented on homosexuality.
@Zechariah Dude, put down the bible and pick up a spelling thesaurus.  Really.
@Zechariah  @Harvey Those books were written before the time of Jesus.Â
@Morgan/Wilson2012 maybe your self willed rebelious narsisstic lusts have also blinded you badly.
@Harvey 1701 his spirit inspiried them to write the books making his principles carry forard consistent with his Holiness laws. your mind trying to elude this is flimsey.
@Zechariah So is eating lobster and working on the Sabbath; they're in the same league. Should we abolish those as well? Maybe we should, so religious zealots could finally see how ridiculous basing our common law on edicts from the fourth millennium BC really is.....
@Zechariah Jesus wasn't in those books, which also condemn people for eating pork, wearing poly-cotton blends, and promote selling their daughters.
it's called the book of Leviticus and Dueteronomy. It speaks clearly of it, called ABOMINATION.
How DARE these gays CHEAPEN the SANCTITY of Zsa Zsa Gabor's & Elizabeth Taylor's dozens of marriages ...
Well, it's almost 6pm and the state of Washington isn't engulfed in flames so that means that all those religious folk who said we'd burn in hell for this, well, it's not happening.  You're still alive and nothing in your life has changed.  Still think it's a big deal?
Hmm, Jessica (if that is her on the left) looks pretty damn hot. She could probably have her choice of boys or girls. Too bad she chose a girl that looks like a boy. Whatever....

@rozeguy  @Gleeker you are describing yourself, hmmm?
@Gleeker 'Too bad she chose a girl that looks like a boy.'  Who knows, maybe she like being dominated by a butch wannabe.
@theobserver  @Gleeker Oh geez. Get over it. They look adorable together, like two young women  very much in love and sort of eloping.  Wish them happiness and Leave them alone.
@Gleeker Too bad you're superficial, and apparently she isn't. Clearly she is going to marry the person that makes her happy and shares unconditional love with.
@pdxd @Gleeker untill they get bored, split up, she takes half of everything and are bitter towards each other forever more
I wonder if they will inadvertently decrease the number of homosexuals in the population by doing this since they won't be reproducing with a straight person. in the past they just had to go with tradition and marry a person of the opposite sex, have kids, and...if it's genetic...pass the genes on to the next generation. We're all just a bunch of chemical reactions and our behavior, personality, intelligence and just about everything else is influenced largely by our dna. Â I'm just bringing this up b/c no one probably has and genetics is somewhat interesting to me on the novice levvel.
@Phuzz We've not really seen that in quite some time - it pretty much ended by about the time my generation was born (1970s).
Â
Every homosexual I've ever known has had two heterosexual parents (and not one pretending to be heterosexual). Not to mention that nothing stops a homosexual couple from having their own kids - there are sperm banks and surrogates, after all.
Â
Also, there is a difference between something being genetic and something being hereditary. You can have something be genetic and not be something that runs in a family.Â
@Jenni S. @Phuzz Genetics huh? A choice is not gene determined else free will on the matter wouldnt be the reality of things now would it. Choice is a free will act. My "Genes " never made me do anything, I choiced all what in life I do, to "do" or not "do". etc. "Gene" logic is such a shallow lie and has never been proven. It is an "Excuse" TO mystify the clear facts because all the sodomite have ids lies to offer and confuse the simpleobvious truths on the matter. .
@Zechariah  @Jenni  @Phuzz OMG you better learn some science because it's not a choice, it's a biologic phenomenon.
@Jenni S.  @Phuzz I'm sure that there are still plenty of closeted gays that pretend to be straight, get married and have children.
@Jenni S.  @UtterReality  @Phuzz People still fear and closet themselves even today. Sad, but look how much social blowback there still is ?Â
@UtterReality  @Phuzz There are probably some, particularly those who don't want to admit to themselves that they are gay. But it's not like it used to be - that if you wanted kids, wanted to be accepted in society, have a good job, etc. that you have to pretend to be straight, get married, and have kids. That's what we were talking about. That stopped long enough ago that had it affected the number of homosexuals being born, we'd have seen it by now since we have a large number of adults who were born after all that stopped.
it could be a recessive gene. only becomes apparent every so often. i've heard of identical twins having one gay twin while the other's straight. so fascinating. i'm just curious what's the root cause of homosexuality.
@Phuzz I've heard 70% of identical twins has the same sexual orientation while fraternal twins have 30% of the same.  It's in the animal kingdom too so I'm not sure what's behind it.
@Phuzz It's all that Mozart and classical music parents played to the expectant mothers at the suggestion of Dr. Spock or Dr. Laura, why do you think we love the opera so much? Kidding.....
