School: Frustrated parent posts alarming Facebook message
CAMAS, Wash. - Frustrated after a Tuesday basketball game between the Camas and Skyview boys teams, a parent posted a message on Facebook, saying “I hope someone shoots up the (Camas) school real soon.”
Notified by the school, police are now investigating the parent, officials said Wednesday.
The man, identified as a parent of a Skyview High School player, posted the Facebook status update sometime after the Tuesday evening game.
The post followed a confrontation between the man and a group of students as he was leaving the gym, said Josh Gibson, Camas School District’s athletic director.
“He flipped kids off. He had some negative reaction” about the game, Gibson said. “Exactly what is said, we don’t know.”
After the game, when most of the players were outside or in the locker room, a parent showed Gibson the post on a phone.
The post said: “Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!!! I hope someone shoots up their school real soon!!!!!!!!”
Gibson said Camas police, Vancouver Public Schools and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office are all taking part in deciding how to best handle the situation.
Deputies interviewed the man and his son on Wednesday and they both gave statements, said Clark County sheriff's Sgt. Fred Neiman.
It’s not yet clear if the parent will face any charges.
Neiman said he anticipates some type of action would be taken.
"We in law enforcement cannot afford to ignore them," Neiman said regarding references to shootings.
Gibson said the situation was especially alarming in light of the recent shootings across the nation.
“I think when you look at the things that have been going on recently with shootings, I think that it’s just unfortunate that a comment like that is thrown out,” he said. “There’s an emotional response to it.”
How's this for irony? Frustrated parent of Skyview student posts on FaceBook; "Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!!! I hope someone shoots up their school real soon!!!!!!!!" Yet it's not the Camas fans, parents or students that made local news headlines for setting an example of extremely bad sportsmanship. So if this guy really wants to see the worst fan in the league, all he has to do is look in the nearest reflective surface. Now there's irony at it's very finest.
"People have the right to be stupid now and then, it's just that some people abuse the privilege."Â (anonymous)Â Â
This is a weird kind of dilemma. Some people say the 2nd amendment should not count anymore because the forefathers meant muskets not high powered rifles or whatever. Some stand for the word of the amendment to the letter. Well, now it is free speech. So, some say don't tread on my rights to spout off whatever comes to mind, no matter who elseâs rights it steps on. What is the difference? You want to change the 2nd, but want to stick to the 1st? Guess what I mean is, if you ruin the 2nd and take part of the rights away because you think it hurts someone else, you need to take away the right to talk crap about other people, schools, political party, etc. You will no longer have the right to talk crap about Mexicans, Blacks, Republicans, Democrats. See the problem with fv<king with the Constitution?
@iamtroglodite@yahoo.com You're a real Einstein, aren't ya.
I think FB should have the authority to put alerts on individual's FB pages with these kinds of comments stating that the content has been reported to proper authorities. Jackass, yes; freedom of speech, yes; the right to upset a whole community over stupid remarks like that, no. Something needs to be done to curb the activity.
@WCharles Gma Like what?
Just some jackass! However, nothing should be done about it because we here in America are allowed free speech.
@Troy Fawcett the freedom of speech stops at my nose and i am allowed to react before it gets there.Â
@Troy Fawcett Free speech yes, calling for terrorist activity, NO!!!
Some people are really dumb!
If they don't ban him from any future school events, I'd be totally surprised.
Just an emotionally immature DB.  The world is full of them.
Great job setting an example of good sportsmanship for your child, Idiot. Get counseling, you need it and your kid probably does too, having been raised by someone so angry and vindictive.
The term parent is used so loosly anymore, this is more of an immature sperm donor!
Well, like the old saying says,"ignorance is bliss", so this gut must be REAL happy. Even if posting stupidity on facebook is not illegal, it is pretty stupid. Not only do you p-iss off the people @ Camas, you put a scourge on the Skyvtew teams name. I am sure MOST of the Skyview kids, parents and staff remember it is just a game. The whole point is for the kids to win AND lose gracefully in the world, not want mass shootings over games.
Freedom of speech, we need to ban it. Obviously its this small group of insane individuals who are ruining it for the rest of us. Freedom of speech needs to be re-examined, it is clearly not appropriate in this day in age.
Kids are in fear of going to school based on one man's actions. Please support the ban of free speech to only informal discussions and not online social media.

@Oregon_University_of_Made_in_China This has nothing to do with freedom of speech, this man was calling for an act of terrorism to be carried out at a school. THAT IS ILLEGAL, and charges need to be brought against him. Â
Slick move exlax. Don't be surprised if that knock on your door is the Police, and I don't mean the 80s rock band.
Sounds like he needs a hug really bad. It may be freedom of speech but when it comes to spouting off threats, I see this as an abuse of rights and he should be held responsible. Set some precedence with this case. Maybe this parent should pick up a pipe and smoke a huge bowl, or even invoke a 24 hour rule and not post things when he's angry? No excuse for this. These are usually the ones that live vicariously through their children.. How much you want to bet his kid is only playing sports because of his father? I saw that a lot when I was in school, and those kids were miserable.
Unbelievable! So are we expecting our kids to be decent? having parents like these? SAD!
You know , you cant fix stupid. But being stupid in not against the law. His actions are covered under the first Amendment .
Wow! Guess someone forgot to take his meds before the game.
Unfortunately, becoming a parent doesn't require an IQ test.Â
It's not whether you win or loose, Its how many stupid things you can post on Facebook.
@Pointblank And in that category of stupid things to post on Facebook, he wins!

@Pointblank Did you just tell me to F off?  You don't even know me!  =)
@iamright555 You can't yell fire in a crowded building, you can't threaten the president, etc.Â
Â
@iamright555 Hope is not a threat.
Who says something like that? Is he just stupid or is he crazy?  There needs to be legal consequences before we have to find out!
I guess the genius switch does have an off position.
Sadly, stupidity is not a crime.
@Conspirator   Stupidity may not be, but the actions of the stupid one sure can be
People, people, people!!! It's a GAME! Geez, people take these things WAY to seriously, and then wonder why their kids are poor sports.Â
Frustrated parent...??? I'd say a dumbass parent that should, hopefully, Â be in jail by now...
Sounds like a threat and jail time for that guy! He may not have meant it as a threat, but he should have had more common sense than this.
@Norm Harding Hope is not a threat.
I wonder if he is a gun owner. Â If so, perhaps he's the type of person that shouldn't be.
@Dr. Rawdog I'm just curious and you can tell me to point my nose in another direction, are you a gun owner? I don't mean Semi-Automatic rifles but any gun at all. Again, just curious.
 @JerkyBob  @Dr. Rawdog I own seven guns.
@Sundowner LOL, I didn't see that one surprisingly. The guy on my Avatar was actually kind of famous a few years ago.  What people will do to escape is amazing yet sad sometimes.
@JerkyBob Love your avatar!  Did you ever see the episode of 'Cops'....it was dark, cop car came around the corner and all you could see in the distance was a glowing circle -- once they got closer they could see it was a huffer's mouth.  His was silver, yours is much more attractive!  =)
@Dr. Rawdog Thank you.  I grow weary of the hate and fear that seems to proliferate on this forum at times and I do my best not to facilitate those that dwell on the negative.
@JerkyBob I appreciate your calm demeanor.  I have a ranch and most of mine are for predator, varmit, and pest control. Â
@oodathunked No, not an NRA member.  Always thought the movement was too Political/Militant for my tastes, but then again I suppose it has to be to satisfy it's members agendas.
@Dr. Rawdog Thanks for answering.  I myself have about that many, maybe a couple more.  Most of them are for hunting; A shotgun for the Salt water bays, A goose gun, An upland bird gun, Deer Rifle, Elk rifle, etc...  I was worried that I might take your comments out of context without knowing if you were a gun owner or not. Thanks again.
@Dr. Rawdog @JerkyBob Are you an NRA member? If not you should be.
@Playanekes  @JerkyBob I sure don't need that many, so what do you suggest I do with the guns I've inherited?  I've not once supported a gun ban of any sort.  I do think there are guns that the average person does not need access too, but never suggested limiting access to them (unless you're a felon or mentally unfit).  Next.....
@Dr. Rawdog  @JerkyBob You certainly don't need that many. Especially if you've been out here telling other people what guns they don't need.
While this may not be illegal, he still is an extremely stupid person for doing this. In any case he is now on every agency's radar...
Under a different president and time, this could have been seen as a "terroristic threat:. Â In some ways it still is. Â How'd you like to be a parent of the school he recommended "shooting up?: Â Insensitive, and really stupid.
@BCH mom He hoped! not a threat
