Neighbor chases off burglar in SW Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - A neighbor chased off a burglary suspect on Friday and the man got away before cops could catch him.

The crime happened just before noon in the 6400 block of Southwest Burlingame Place.

Anne Johnston said she noticed something wasn't right when she saw people scoping out her neighbor's house. When she saw a man bolt from the house, she yelled at him and chased him down the street.

The man got away and Johnston called 9-1-1. Police canvassed the area but were unable to find the suspect or any of the other people that Johnston said she saw outside the home.

Both Wilson High School and Rieke Elementary were put into lockdown during all of this as a precaution.

At this point, police only have a description of the man who Johnston chased off.

Suspect Description

  • White male
  • 25 years old
  • 6 feet, 2 inches tall
  • Thin build
  • Black hair
  • Was wearing a black bomber jacket, blue jeans and had a backpack
